Clarifying a statement made in the next video regarding Etsy based on my own research with source. Top reasons for leaving Etsy.
Etsy already uses Gemini, an AI LLM. See Model Collapse Ends AI Hype (YT video) and AI Crash Report: The Physics of the Collapse (YT video).
* No Ban Planned: Etsy's leadership has indicated no plans to ban AI art or remove AI-related categories, despite significant frustration from traditional artisans regarding the "flooding" of the marketplace with AI-generated products.
* Policy Focus on Disclosure: Sellers are required to toggle an AI disclosure in their listing details (and disclose in description) if they use AI, though reports suggest many, including "low-quality spam," do not comply.
* Controversy and Saturation: The influx of AI-generated products—particularly in print-on-demand, digital, and pattern categories—has led to a 200-300% increase in, what some sellers call, "AI spam". This has created a "race to the bottom" for some, where thousands of low-quality AI listings compete on volume.
* Impact on Human Artists: The rise of AI has led some long-term sellers to leave the platform, claiming it is no longer viable due to the over saturation, while others are pivoting their marketing to emphasize that their products are truly "made by human hands".
Future Monetization: There is speculation that Etsy may soon start charging sellers for traffic generated through new AI shopping experiences, which could further change the landscape for AI-reliant sellers. (ECommerceBytes)
This will happen via Etsy's partnerships with Google, Gemini and Microsoft.
* Platform Personalization: Instead of removing AI, Etsy is attempting to personalize search results, aiming to show handmade items to buyers looking for handmade and AI-generated items to those seeking them..... *By using AI, in other words using AI to police itself (an impossibility), especially with each generation being less reliable than the previous.
