Google Advertising operates a 3-tier Partner program. You can join tier 1 as a member. Tier 2/3 involves successfully completing certification(s) and persistently managing at least $10,000 over a 90-day period.

Why am I sharing?

Google recently refreshed the program and relevant to my/our target public is the whopping c500% increase in promotional ad credits available to new accounts.

Google used to offer £75 in the UK but now offers £400 to new businesses/accounts who sign up!

I have been around for a good length of time and managed massive budgets (up to a million per month is max I have experienced) and really small budgets (£10 per day!). There are plenty SMBs who do £400-£500 budgets monthly!

Get a top-notch budget/campaign manager and the new £400 promo credit can give you such a great start; getting you leads/sales and learnings that can get you on the path to a self-financing campaign!

Alphabet’s Google Search brought into just under $149 billion in 2021. Advertisers invested more than $10 billion on Microsoft Advertising in the last 12 months. LinkedIn ads is part of Microsoft’s roll call by the way. These all had year on year growth.

Facebook’s 2021 performance, unfortunately, just precipitated a whopping $230 billion wipe off in Meta’s value. A result of the pincer attack from Apple’s privacy drive and Tok-tok’s rise.

So, Google recently announced a whopping $210 billion revenue for fiscal year 2021.

82% of that figure came from Google advertising. A +42% increase year on year.

Businesses will not be so into Google advertising if it does not work!

The last State of PPC report from Hanapin reported up to 70% of businesses surveyed saying Google ads was the number 1 most effective channel for them.

Damning Results From Test of Google’s Oft Recommended Broad Match Switch!

The focus on switching to the broad match type has been at the forefront of Google ad’s recommendations recently.

Perhaps, it’s just the most unusual of all the recommendations to date for many advertisers.

The recommendation and suggested effect is actually very attractive.

It says switching to broad match type will efficiently grow your conversions (sales, leads).

You will agree that any small business will be drawn to that potential!

Google says advertisers that switch to broad match can see around 25% more conversions (in Target CPA campaigns) and around 12% more conversion value (in Target ROAS campaigns) while meeting targets.

Managers at Seerinteractive conducted tests over a 2 months period. Each test produced consistently poor results!

The tests were left to run for 2 weeks. The results were damning in my opinion

-50% fewer conversions

+62% higher CPA and

-47% drop in ROAS

Conclusion is - Do not apply Google’s switch to broad match recommendation in it’s present form.
