Australian retail giant Kmart has unveiled its first dedicated K Home store in Melbourne’s Box Hill, focusing entirely on homewares, furniture, storage, décor, and lifestyle products. The 3,100 sqm concept store aims to provide an immersive shopping experience similar to IKEA, showcasing fully styled rooms and giving customers access to larger furniture ranges that were previously available only online. The move is part of Kmart’s strategy to capture a larger share of Australia’s booming $19 billion home furnishings market while continuing to offer affordable prices through its popular Anko brand.

Australia has significantly reduced the number of 491 Skilled Work Regional visa grants for the 2026/27 migration program year, cutting allocations from 33,000 to just 14,110. The move has created uncertainty for international students and skilled migrants relying on regional pathways to secure permanent residency. Cities like Perth and Adelaide are expected to be heavily impacted, with growing calls for state governments to fight to maintain their regional migration status and opportunities.

Adelaide Massage Therapist Jailed 13 Years for Abusing 61 Female Clients

An Adelaide massage therapist, Sumit Satish Rastogi, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to 97 offences involving the sexual abuse and secret filming of 61 female clients. The offences included aggravated indecent assault and indecent filming carried out while he worked at a Glenelg massage parlour without formal qualifications. The court heard Rastogi later blamed his actions on voyeuristic disorder and personal marital issues. Following his prison sentence, he is also expected to face deportation proceedings from Australia.

Former operators of a United Petroleum outlet in Melbourne’s west have been fined a total of $40,000 after underpaying an Indian international student working as a casual console operator. The Federal Circuit and Family Court found the worker was paid unlawfully low flat rates — as little as $14 per hour instead of the lawful award rate of over $28 per hour. Authorities also uncovered false payslips and breaches of workplace record laws. Fair Work Ombudsman said migrant workers remain a priority area due to their vulnerability to exploitation.
