ISLAMABAD: Appar­en­tly responding to the interior minister’s warning to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) followers against marching towards D-Chowk, party chief Imran Khan categorically stated on Thursday he will enter the capital with “full preparations” this time around and that the minister will not find a place to hide if he resorts to violence against peaceful marchers.

Mr Khan also administered oath to a staggering over 5,000 newly inducted party office-bearers and directed them to prepare for his next plan of action.

“We were not fully ready on May 25 when Rana Sanaullah used massive teargas shelling against PTI women and children because we intended to hold a peaceful long march on the federal capital,” he claimed, vowing once again to give the final call for a countrywide protest after fully preparing the party’s ‘tigers’ for a decisive battle to liberate the country from the “corrupt” rulers once and for all.

Speaking at the oath ceremony of office-bearers of various PTI organisations at Jinnah Convention Centre, Mr Khan recalled how his government had allowed Maulana Fazul Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to hold their rallies without placing any obstacles in their way or filing cases against them, adding the “corrupt junta” used teargas and shelling against peaceful PTI marchers. However, he said now Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah should worry because this time he would come fully prepared.

“We have a protest on Saturday, I will hold a rally in Rahim Yar Khan and there will be historic protests across the country,” he added. The protest would be a litmus test for them after which he would decide when to give the final call, he added.

ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistani premier Imran Khan has once again provided fodder for a meme fest on social media as the PTI chief described litre as the unit of mass for flour.

Khan invited trouble by telling price of flour in litres instead of kilos during his live address where he mentioned soaring inflation in the country.

During the virtual address, the defiant politician got confused over the unit used to measure flour, an essential commodity which remained in the news after its prices touched a historic high.

"Flour was being sold at Rs50 per kg under the PTI government, but it is being sold at Rs 100 per litre now," Khan said in the viral clip which is doing rounds on the internet.

As Khan’s clip of the 'Atta per litre' rocked the social sites, netizens latched on to it and trolled the PTI chief who himself mocked PM Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other politicians over tongue slips.

Earlier, Indian leader Rahul Gandhi made such a statement, saying "Atta, which was 22 rupees per litre is now 40 rupees." However, the Congress leader corrected himself.

Eight radio-collared African cheetahs step out onto the grassland of Kuno National Park in central India, their final destination after a 8,000-kilometre journey from Namibia that has drawn criticism from some conservationists.

The arrival of the big cats — the fastest land animal on Earth — coincides with the 72nd birthday of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who released the first cat into the park on Saturday. It is the culmination of a 13-year effort to restore a species that vanished from India some 70 years ago.

The high-profile project is the first time wild cheetahs have been moved across continents to be released. It has raised questions from scientists who say the government should do more to protect the country’s own struggling wildlife.

The cheetahs — five females and three males — arrived after a two-day aeroplane and helicopter journey from the African savannah, and are expected to spend two to three months in a six-square-km enclosure inside the park in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

If all goes well with their acclimation to Kuno, the cats will be released to run through 5,000 square km of forest and grassland, sharing the landscape with leopards, sloth bears and striped hyenas.

Another 12 cheetahs are expected to join the fledgling Indian population next month from South Africa. And as India gathers more funding for the 910 million rupee project, largely financed by the state-owned Indian Oil, it hopes to eventually grow the population to around 40 cats.

SP Yadav of the National Tiger Conservation Authority said the extinction of the cheetah in India in 1952 was the only time the country had lost a large mammal species since independence.

“It is our moral and ethical responsibility to bring it back.”
