Content, content, content. I’m sure you’ve all heard “content is king” or something similar but sometimes it’s easier said than done. How do you come up with content? Where do you find ideas and inspiration?

Here’s a few tips to kick-start your content creation.

🌵 Pinterest
Search your industry on Pinterest and make a board to save content ideas. Make a note of content that stands out to you — helpful tips, eye-catching facts, fun quotes or step-by-step how-tos.

🌵 YouTube
Search your industry on YouTube. Find a few videos that catch your attention. Build your content around that! Use the video title as inspiration to create an Instagram carousel, infographic or Twitter poll.

🌵 Twitter
Check what’s trending on Twitter. Is there a topic that’s relevant to your business or industry?

🌵 Saved tab on Instagram
Have a look through posts you have saved on Instagram. Can you create something similar relating to your business?

🌵 Posts with high engagement
Check your insights to see which of your posts have had the best engagement. Is there a common theme? There might be 2 or 3 types of content that have worked well. Alternate between them!

🌵 Calendar dates
Use Google to find a calendar of awareness days and celebrations. For example, National Children’s Day and British Tomato Fortnight in May. Are they relevant to your business? Remember to use any related hashtags to extend your reach.

Before you post, it’s good to think about your target audience. Will they be excited by the content?!

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a few changes coming soon to video on Facebook and Facebook Messenger.

💫 First up is the introduction of 360 new virtual backgrounds and mood lighting to use on Facebook Messenger video calls.

💫 ‘Messenger Rooms’ will be a Zoom-style option hosted on Facebook Messenger for virtual hangouts and meetings. After the surge in popularity of video meetings and hangouts over the last few months, Facebook has jumped on the trend.

💫 After removing the function for adding a guest to Live back in December, Facebook will soon be reintroducing it. It makes a lot of sense, especially with the rising popularity of Instagram Lives with guests. Which makes you think, why did they remove it in the first place?!

💫 Facilitating ticket sales for live video events is big news for artists, creatives and businesses providing services, especially while most people are adapting their businesses and working methods!

What changes or updates do you think will be next?

It's important to consider these forms of engagement when calculating your engagement rate, Instagram advises that you get the most accurate result if you calculate your true engagement rate, which includes the number of saves and shares.

Only 24% of accounts with 1-1000 followers use emojis compared to 83% of accounts with more than 1 million followers. 💭

If that's not enough to persuade you to drop an emoji into your captions now and again, posts with emojis get 15% more engagement on average.

It doesn't have to be a 😂 or a 😊... get creative! Find emojis that work with your brand and use them to make your text more eye-catching. 💥

What makes good content?

Good content should always add value. This can be achieved in different ways:

🌵 Entertaining
A gif, meme, funny quote or amusing anecdote. Show your brand's sense of humour!

🌵 Educational
Share some valuable information. This can be industry-specific hints and tips, recipes, tutorials or advice.

🌵Relevant
Jump on a trending topic or start a conversation about
a topical issue or event.

🌵 Inspirational
Creative ideas or inspiration that your followers will want to save for later.

🌵 Informative
Facts and information that your audience will find useful. This can also be done visually through an infographic.

🌵 Supportive
People like to share and engage with content that makes them feel good (particularly at the moment!). Think about how many times you have seen motivational quotes reshared!

🌵Relatable
Anecdotes and pictures that people can relate are always good for engagement!

Look through posts you have recently saved or sent to friends/family. Why have you saved or sent them?!
