I remember when one of my clients expressed her disappointment in how little engagement she was getting. She felt like what we were doing wasn't working.

We had two options: change our content because "it's not good" or to keep doing what we're doing.

Before I considered doing anything else, I did some number crunching to verify what I already knew: her engagement rate is actually above average! Which means our content is good and it IS working. We ARE getting good engagement!

If we went off of her feeling of "not getting good engagement" and changed the strategy, we would have lost the good results we are already getting.

Now that we know the content itself isn't the problem, we can look at how to get more people looking at the content.

The number of entrepreneurs who are disappointed in the results they’re getting online is too damn high.

And what’s worse is that many of these entrepreneurs don’t even know for a fact that the results they’re getting are “bad.”

Look at the data your platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, website, etc.) are collecting. Compare them to industry-wide averages. (Don’t know what the averages are? Start with a Google search.)

For example, if you’re disappointed in the engagement you get on Facebook, look at the numbers. How many people ENGAGED with your post? How many followers do you have? What’s the rate based on these numbers?

Did you know that the average engagement rate on Facebook is 1%??

So if you have 100 fans and one likes your post, that’s good! It’s okay to want more engagement. I’m not saying you should “settle” for only one person enjoying your posts.

But by knowing you are hitting the averages or are above average, you know that you’re on the right track. No room for thinking you're doing poorly!

Look at your numbers and educate yourself on what industry averages are. You might be surprised to see you’re doing a lot better than you realize!

What if you’re live streaming and something awkward and/or unplanned happens?

🐶 Your pet or child walks on screen and interrupts.

😬 You have a hard time finding the “end live stream” button so you have a pained, frozen smile on as your eyes dart around on the screen.

😳 You misspeak and say something incorrectly.

⁉️ You lose your train of thought*

The list of unexpected things goes on and on and on.

Don’t sweat it! It’s not a big deal. This won’t make or break whether someone chooses to follow you, engage with you, or hire you.

(And if it does turn someone off, thank goodness. You probably weren’t a good fit for each other anyway.)

Here’s what you do:

Move on!

In most cases, calling it out (quickly and briefly) would even be better.

🐶 “Oh, looks like Mia wanted to come and say ‘hi!’”

😬 “See you next time!… I can’t find the button! Haha! Oh there it is. Bye, guys!”

😳 “Well actually, scratch that. What I meant to say…”

⁉️ “Omg… I totally just lost my train of thought. [Pause] Well, let’s just continue.”

Calling it out makes it fun, makes you relatable (the person watching is also imperfect!), and eases the tension.

As long as you’re not letting your call-out completely derail you, it’s not a big deal.

It’s not a big deal!

Just keep going!

* I’ve lost my train of thought several times during livestreams over the last few years. Somehow, people still like me and want to hire my agency. Weird!

If you post and don’t hear much from your audience, it’s not a waste.

You’re not just creating content for your *current* audience.

You’re also creating content for your *future* audience.

When someone discovers a new page, person, or brand for the first time through a post and is intrigued, they’ll likely go through their feed to see what else they have.

They want more and more!

I did that recently with and

I fell in LOVE with the content I saw and just had to have more. 30 minutes later, I had read dozens of posts and even sent a few to some friends.

Nowadays, I check their pages consistently and continue to share with friends.

When you publish content, you’re publishing it not only for the people who will see it today but also for future fans who have yet to stumble upon you.

If and didn’t have much else on their feeds, I would have spent only a few seconds there and probably would have forgotten them.

But because they had been posting their best content for a long time, I was drawn in, compelled to engage, and became a fan.

So, I hope you’re not thinking your posts with low reach and engagement are a waste. Because they’re not!

The content you publish now is an investment in your future!

I’m sitting here STUMPED. What do I write for you?

Through my agency Envivo, I literally create content for a living.

I have all of my strategic documents opened up: everything that says what my ideal clients pains and desires are, the topics that I cover, questions I’m asked all the time.

I started writing a post, scrapped it, started writing it again, scrapped it… rinse and repeat!

For some reason, I am drawing a blank and feel uninspired.

I looked at my timer. I’ve been sitting here for 15 minutes and up until a minute ago, I had nothing.

Suddenly, inspiration struck me! THIS post came to me.

A lot of you are passionate creatives who follow their intuition or flow. I hear from my clients and students all the time that they only write when they’re inspired.

Sometimes the inspiration doesn’t come, so they go a long time without creating anything.

The problem is a lot of entrepreneurs only start creating when they feel inspired.

But I tell them to just sit down. Even if you feel completely uninspired, just sit.

Clear your head, realign yourself with what it is you wish you had inspiration for… and try.

Write and scrap, write and scrap, write and scrap.

It may not feel good. Obviously it feels much better when you’re excited about something and you can’t create fast enough.

But by doing what I just did, you’re getting your creative juices flowing. You’re putting yourself in that headspace of creation and what you love to talk about and do.

Working ONLY when you feel spontaneously inspired is unreliable.

What if you ⭐️intentionally⭐️ create that inspiration?

It can be uncomfortable and painful at first. But keep trying… it’ll come!

I’m alive!

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been pretty MIA online 5-6 months.

Nothing catastrophic happened in my life!

A series of events just led to me needing to refocus my energy on other areas of my life and business.

Behind-the-scenes, everything has been normal in business this whole time! Providing services to our clients, we’ve onboarded a few new clients that we LOVE, and we’ve been working on re-building the foundation of Envivo.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to me over the last few months ♥️ I recently heard some were even asking my mom about me lol

I am fine, my family is fine, my business is fine.

Maybe one day, I’ll write about that series of events and the lessons I learned.

For now, I want to say “hello” again and start playing with everyone online again!

Here's the secret to enjoy marketing yourself online.⁣⁣

Do what you enjoy doing!⁣⁣
⁣⁣

But it's really true. ⁣⁣

Today, I hosted a workshop where I guided entrepreneurs through the work of creating a strategy that feels good for them.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🔑 The key is to do what you enjoy.⁣ 🔑⁣
⁣⁣
There are so many marketing experts out there saying you should focus on this or that and they often contradict each other.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I've seen you get confused and overwhelmed.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So as someone who is doing all (or most) of your marketing yourself, I say lean into what you enjoy doing and ditch what you don't enjoy doing if you can.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If what you don't enjoy doing is something that you HAVE to do, then see what you can do to create joy in it or at least less resistance.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For example, if you don't enjoy scheduling social media posts, then hire a VA to do it. Or if you don't want to do that, then change your mindset:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
"People enjoy what I create. If I don't schedule my posts, then I don't get the opportunity to create impact. Plus, I'm not building an audience of leads which is hurting my sales.⁣⁣

"Thus, scheduling social media posts leads to sales."⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I get that I'm really simplifying this. But it's important to simplify and get rid of what you're resisting and lean into what you enjoy doing.⁣⁣
