Not many companies got into this as deep as Google in exposing a foreign bot scam group named Glupteba. They not only went after investigating this group but also won the court case which raised awareness of worldwide scams and inspired the world. There are many scam groups still out there at this moment coming up with different tactics to take our money in various ways. In this case, the damage they made was fatal when they stole confidential information using bots and sneaking into users' software. The question is what another generation of bots look like and when will it be?

The case could establish new legal precedent for taking action against scam activity.

As more fake accounts and bots are rising not only on Twitter but over many social media platforms, it’s damaging brands’ financial, credibility and paid marketing campaigns when their money is spent on advertisements that are not delivered to people who are supposed to see it. Most big brands have about 30% suspicious followers. Some companies had removed a significant number of accounts such as Facebook and Twitter.

I think it’s essential for brands to frequently evaluate social media performance, particularly engagement/interaction such as a low number of comments and likes. And there are several apps out there that could detect different types of those suspicious accounts and remove them.

About a quarter of the world's most popular brands' Instagram followers are defined as "fake" or "suspicious" accounts, according to new research.
