So here’s the deal, does anyone else feel like New Year’s resolutions suck?
Same, girl, saaaaaame.
So instead of setting “resolutions” I have learned to create trackable goals with a little fluff in between, and over the last few years it has gone really well.
These are the things that work for me as a chaotic type A girly who should probably have an ADHD diagnosis. So in short, if these work for me, they will probably work for you, too. 😉
Here are the five things I do every year to prepare for a new year.
1. Pick a word of the year.
This is not a novel idea, but it is one that has really worked for me, so long as I remember it all year long. I’ve gone the route of using an online word picker and picking a word for myself. I have found the self-picked word based on who I want to be in the following year has gone much better. This year my word is “intention”.
2. Creat a fresh budget.
Even if your financial situation has not changed, it is still worth it to actually create a new budget every year that reflects your financial goals. Digitally “touch” every single bill and expense you have so you can identify if it is still serving you and if there is a way to save money. Suddenly, the down payment for the house, the early debt pay off, or the big trip seem more obtainable.
In years past I have made my own budget, but this year I am using the one from and it’s great.
3. Set a realistic reading goal on
Everyone should read. It is so much better for you than social media and it is more approachable than ever. In 2024 I read 77. In 2025 I plan to read 25. No matter the season, I plan to read.
4. Create a vision board for my phone and computer background.
I am a visual learner and I have found that this is the best way to keep me focused when it comes to my financial and personal goals. I use & .
5. Clean out mu “follows” and/or friend list.
If you are like me, you spend too much time on social. In 2020 I decided I wanted to at least have that time be enriching. You are what you consume, and as I have changed so has my feed.
What do you do to prep for a new year?
