“Sir, the alligator was NOT on your side.”
A Louisiana man decided that jumping off an interstate bridge into a swamp was a better life choice than talking to a state trooper. Bold strategy. Wrong strategy — but bold.
Victor Rivas, 40, was pulled over on I-310 in St. Charles Parish after troopers spotted signs of impairment. Rather than take a field sobriety test like a normal person, he fled on foot and launched himself off an elevated portion of the interstate into the swamp below.
He survived that.
Then — when law enforcement spotted him again walking along Highway 61 — he fled again. Into another swampy area.
Now, most departments would release the K9s at this point.
Louisiana State Police looked at each other and said,
“Nah. Let the swamp K9s handle it.”

What Victor didn’t know was that waiting in those dark Louisiana waters was Sgt. T-Boy Gaterson — top of his class at the *other* LSP K9 academy. The one they don’t put in the brochure. The one held entirely underwater at 2am somewhere off a dirt road in the Atchafalaya Basin.
Sgt. T-Boy had trained for this moment his entire life.
And Victor’s arm paid the price. Twice.
Both of them.
By the time Sgt. T-Boy was done, Victor looked like he’d tried to fight the entire state of Louisiana and lost — because that’s essentially what happened.
“The Swamp K9s got it this time, boys!” 🐊🚨
They eventually had to pull Victor out with drone technology, which honestly feels like overkill after what Sgt. T-Boy already put him through.
Rivas was charged with DWI (Second Offense), Resisting an Officer, Hit and Run, and Careless Operation.
Sgt. T-Boy Gaterson was not charged.

Victor, baby. You jumped off a bridge, survived the fall, got mauled by a decorated law enforcement professional, and STILL got caught by a drone. At some point the universe stopped whispering and started biting back. 😂🌿
