I always enjoy identity packages, but an identity package with a menu is an extra-fun challenge. Having grown up in the restaurant business, anything food-related lights me up just a little bit more.

This job for Dapp Inspired was very dear to my heart. This nonprofit was created to honor the memory of Mike Dappolone, who always left us smiling, then left us too soon. His wife Kristie, a model of grace and strength in the face of grief, entrusted me to create this logo. I'm still happy with how it came out, and I think it does a great job communicating the love Mike had for making education fun and accessible. I also still really miss the guy.

Almost guaranteed to trigger a graphic designer is the offer to send artwork over in a Word document. Sending over actual words in Word is perfectly fine (as long as you haven't formatted it), but any artwork you've plopped into your Word document is going to be useless for any design project.

This also goes for art downloaded from the internet. First of all, it's frequently copyright infringement to just take stuff you find on the web, and even when it isn't, it's certainly unethical. Morality aside, art that's optimized for online usage is nearly always of a resolution that is far too low to translate well into print. Even the best graphic artist in the world can't make low-res art look good, no matter how fabulous the design.

Don't undercut your project by giving your graphics professional substandard art. If you've gone to the trouble to hire a designer, make sure you give them the tools they need to make it the best they possibly can. This will ALWAYS mean supplying your designer with the original high-resolution art files.

Anyone who has ever worked in an office with me has seen a battered copy of this posted somewhere near my computer. It continues to be as true now as it was something like 15 years ago when I first started pinning it up. While there are definitely empirical elements of good design, it's ultimately a subjective enterprise, and *everyone* has an opinion.

This is a one-color shirt design for a men's softball team. Otherwise, self explanatory. 🍻

One of my most recent logo commissions, The Dorky Dabber! had a lot of ideas about what she wanted for her new look. We did a few different revisions until she finally found exactly what she was looking for.

Logos are probably my favorite thing to design. I love collaborating with business owners and non-profits to come up with the perfect identity piece for them. It's always a creative challenge, and, more often than not, is incredibly satisfying when the client tells me, "It's perfect! I love it!"

I needed something to cheer me up today, so I hopped into the Wayback Machine for this poster series from 2008. Though the turnaround times for these were ridiculous, designing them was a blast, and, of course, the Phils won the World Series that year!

Welcome to my graphic design page! I’ll be using this page to showcase projects I’ve worked on, design that inspires me, memes relating to the field, and anything else that strikes my fancy. I hope you keep me in mind for all your design (and writing) needs!
