The Penguin paperback is 90 years old this year! As a paperback Designer for Oxford Academic (Oxford University Press)’s Bookworms series circa 2008, I have long admired their design.

They were the brainwave of Allan Cane who was frustrated at the poor quality of paperbacks stocked at Victorian train stations. His idea was to develop a series of high-quality literature that was affordable (the same cost as a packet of ci******es) and well designed.
