LG releases NAAC’s “Analysis of Accreditation Reports of Union Territories-Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh”

The publication will work as an intelligent assistant for our Academicians, Vice-Chancellors, Professors, and Students: LG

SRINAGAR, CNS,11-SEP: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today released 'Analysis of Accreditation Reports of Union Territories-Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh' by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at SKICC.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor termed the Assessment and Accreditation process as an important factor to maintain the quality of education in Universities and Colleges.

He said that the publication will work as an intelligent assistant for our Academicians, Vice-Chancellors, Professors and students.

Highlighting the need to introduce new reforms to meet the requirements of the rapidly transforming education system and the changing market dynamics, the Lt Governor said that the University and Colleges have immense power and a small shift in curriculum can have a decisive impact on the socio-economic environment.

“The future belongs to those students and teachers who can realize their full potential and adapt to rapidly changing requirements”, observed the Lt Governor.

As we are heading towards an era which will be dominated by the knowledge economy, our biggest asset would be the Human Capital, a combination of talent, skill, and creativity.We are making efforts to continuously improve the courses in Universities and Colleges, incorporating students' feedback to create a conducive environment for learning and innovation, the Lt Governor said.

Our aim is to empower every student with technical and social skills to develop entrepreneurial thinking. The UT Government is consistently reforming the educational system with new tools to produce required skill sets, observed the Lt Governor.

Also, critical thinking and life-long learning process through offline and online mode is being promoted so that our youth can contribute in making Jammu Kashmir Aatma-Nirbhar, he added.

Pointing out some of the important observations made in the analysis, the Lt Governor stressed on the need to improve the student-feedback mechanism and put in place a systemized and scientifically analyzed system.

This feedback system needs to be implemented as a constructive, public participation and contribution to society in order to inculcate a mix of skills and values in the student, he added.

The Lt Governor emphasized to lay special focus on various aspects of the modern education system including introduction of interdisciplinary & Short-Term courses; promoting Student-Diversity, research & innovation, student mentoring, besides strengthening Academia-Industry connect and continuously upgrading of skill sets to develop youth into a multi-skilled human capital.

The Lt Governor also advised for accreditation and re-accreditation of Universities and Colleges. The criteria including curriculum as per today's standard, teaching-learning and evaluation, research, infrastructure and learning resources, student support, governance, leadership and management, innovative and best practices are essential for the higher educational institutions to do an in-depth analysis and know about their strengths & weaknesses, and make further improvements, he added.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the authorities, faculty members, and students of University of Kashmir and University of Jammu for securing A+ grade.

He called for doubling the efforts on part of the Universities across J&K to improve their standings in NIRF and other such ranking frameworks.

Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir delivered the welcome address and highlighted the measures taken by the university for implementation of National Education Policy.

Prof. S.C Sharma, Director NAAC shared his views on the occasion through a video message.

Meanwhile, Prof. Amiya Kumar Rath, Advisor NAAC, and Dr. S. Srikanata Swamy, Academic Expert spoke on J&K specific recommendations and observations made in the analysis report. Dr. Wahidul Hasan, Senior Communication & Publication officer, NAAC delivered the Vote of Thanks.

Takes stock of restoration work, calls for conservation of waterbodies

Srinagar june 05 CNS : On the eve of World Environmental Day (WED), The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole today called for conservation and restoration of pristine glory of all lakes and water bodies.

The Div Com said this during an extensive tour of various water bodies including Nigeen, Gilsar, Khushalsar lakes, Nalla Amir Khan and other water channels in Srinagar to take on spot stock of restoration and cleaning work.During the tour, Div Com was accompanied by DC Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, CE I&FC, VC LAWDA, President NLCO and other concerned.

In a Shikara, tour started from Pokhribal Nigeen lake and went through across various areas including Dhobi Ghat, Lal Bazaar, Bota Kadal, Amda Kadal through Nallah Amir Khan.Appreciating work done by LAWDA, SMC, F&IC and NLCO jointly for restoration of these waterbodies in past two months, the Div Com said their work is quite visible. He instructed the concerned shall continue the work in full gear to restore pristine glory of these water bodies.

The Div Com also appealed people to stop littering and throwing garbage in waterbodies leading to their degradation which poses great threat to the human existence.Stressing on community participation, the Div Com directed concerned to aware and sensitize people regarding importance of conserving natural resources in Kashmir.

He said that SMC has doubled the garbage collection efficiency in the Srinagar City. In past two months the daily waste collection has gone up from 350 tonnes/day to 620 tonnes a day. The sweeping is done in two shifts morning and evening in the market areas. SMC has been lifting the muck and garbage removed from the Dal Lake and other water bodies. The garbage and muck taken out from Khushalsar and Gilsar lakes is being lifting on daily basis using JCBs and heavy vehicles.

Under Smart City Mission, the rejuvenation of Gilsar Lake has also been taken up. The Irrigation & Flood Control Water Master as well earth moving machinery has been put in place which is removing the garbage, muck and w**d from Khushalsar and Gilsar lakes.

Similarly, LAWDA has also put all men and machinery on job and intensified its cleaning and restoration work of waterbodies in Srinagar. The work done in past two months has brought tangible results in restoration of our water bodies.During the tour, various public delegation called upon Div Com and raised their demands and issues with him. Care Kashmir, TAAK distribute masks
Organise awareness campaign on SoPs, Covid guidelines in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 28: Valley's travel and tourism associations organised mask distribution and awareness campaign on Tuesday.The campaign was launched by Local NGO Care Kashmir, Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) and other travel association associations.

During the campaign, the heads of these associations and their members distributed masks among commuters and also exhorted them to follow and implement Covid-19 SOPs to contain spread of the pendamic.

President Travel Agents Assiciation of Kashmir Ashfaq Siddiq Dug and its Secretary General Farooq Kuthoo and other office bearers took active part in the campaign.

Dug said they were happy to see that over 90 percent of the commuters had put on masks and those who were without masks were informed about its importance and were given the masks.

"We known that this is a long drawn battle with pandemic and unless we follow guidelines in totality, containing virus will be difficult. We will organise more such mask distribution drives to ensure everyone wears it."

Congress distributes PPE kits, essentials among poor on Rahul Gandhi’s birthday

Srinagar June, 19 CNS : Srinagar District Congress Committee (DCC) today distributed PPE kits and essentials among the poor residents of Bemina Srinagar to celebrate the Birth Day of Rahul Gandhi and vowed to continue to work for the wellbeing of the people.

Srinagar District Congress Committee led by its President Abdul Gani Khan organized an extraordinary function in Bemina locality of Srinagar District today while strictly following the SOPs and distributed PPE kits, essentials among the poor residents.The function was organized to celebrate the Birth Day of Rahul Gandhi.

Those who were present on this occasion included Senior Leader Nissar Ahmad Mundo, SMC Corporator Shameema Khan, Dr. Fayaz, Muzaffar Ahmad, and various other Party workers.A similar function was organized at Sempura Pantha Chowk, where Senior Congress Leader Abid Ahmad Bhat (Kashmir) distributed essentials among the poor and needy people of the area.The Party Leaders vowed to work for the wellbeing of the poor and downtrodden sections of the society, who were impacted badly due to the pandemic COVID 19.

Taking the opportunity of the function, DCC Srinagar urged the Govt to reach out to poor and needy, who were not even able to live hand to mouth and ensure appropriate compensation to them, besides taking effective measures to compensate Transports, Labourers and other poor classes of the society, whose families were fully dependent on their daily earnings, but were unable to earn due to the lockdown, they said.

The best way to celebrate the birthday of our leader was to reach to poor and needy and help, who have become victims of the crisis, they added. (CNS)

Community Teaching With Social Distancing

Amid COVID Crisis Teacher delivers classes in his lawns

Bandipora, 19 June, CNS: Amidst the continued lock-down due to ongoing Pandemic crisis, many teachers have walked an extra mile by imparting education to students through a novel way of Community Teaching. Like the 2016 unrest, when youths across the valley organized 'Curfew Schools' now in order to aid the student community during the COVID crisis, many teachers have arranged classes in their homes with safety measures in mind. A renowned teacher and writer from North Kashmir's Bandipora district, Majid Marouphay has set an example by taking a lead in reaching out to the student community and teaching scores of students in the courtyard of his house while implementing the social distancing.

Majid Marouphay while describing his motive behind initiative told CNS, "I took this initiative as it was extremely painful to see our wards out of schools from last many months. I approached the parents and requested them to send their kids here. There was an overwhelming response and now I teach students of middle standard in the lawn of my house with the full protective protocol.”

The parents have hailed this initiative of Majid Marouphay and have urged other teachers to follow the same.
"It is a heartwarming gesture to see someone caring for your ward at such times. Our children have suffered a lot due to no schooling since last August and initiatives like these make it sure that our children do not lose their precious time and stay in touch with their books. Majid's initiative should serve as an inspiration and example for other teachers as well," said a parent. (CNS)

Load carrier stolen from district Hospital Kulgam

Kulgam, 19th June, CNS: In an overnight theft, Vehicle lifters stole a load carrier from the parking lot of district Hospital Kulgam, during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to CNS, a Piagio load carrier bearing registration number JK 18 A 7401, was stolen from the parking lot of District Hospital Kulgam, by the unknown vehicle lifters, during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
The owner of the load carrier Mukhtar Ahmed Mir son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir a resident of Boniparigam Kulgam said that after completing day’s work, he had gone to the hospital to attend his relative, who was admitted in the hospital for the night, where he parked his load carrier in the parking lot.

“After spending the night inside attending mu relative, when I came out of the hospital building, in the morning, I was shocked to see my vehicle missing”, he said.

He said, “I looked everywhere, in and outside the hospital premises, but could not locate my vehicle anywhere.”

“Finally I have reported the theft in Police Station Kulgam and have been assured by the police that my missing vehicle will be recovered and those who are involved in the theft will be apprehended”, he added.

Meanwhile Police has taken the cognizance of the incident and hunt to nab the criminals, involved in the theft has been launched. (CNS)

Tariq ahmad(44) the maternal cousin of editor in chief of current news of india bilal bazaz, the said person recently recovered from heart attack after major efforts by the doctors, but today again he suffered another stroke and we lost him.

15 days old kid becomes fresh victim of COVID-19 in Kashmir, J-K toll 75

Srinagar, June 19 : Kashmir recorded third death due to COVID-19 this morning, as 15 days old baby from Srinagar died of this virus and became youngest victim of this deadly disease.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Professor Farooq Jan told that 15 days/M ,MRD of Bemina,case of aortic stenosis with CCF, patient expired this morning.

He said earleir two patients died due to this virus at SKIMs among one from Nowhshera Srinagar and another a Sopore resident.The death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir now stands at 75.

Srinagar, June 18: Jammu & Kashmir Police on Friday said both militants hiding inside mosque in Meej area of Pampore have been neutralised.

In a tweet, police said patience and professionalism worked to neutralise the militants as well as to maintain sanctity of the Masjid

"MeejPampore Encounter Update: Patience & professionalism worked. No use of firing & IED. Used tear smoke shells only. Maintained sanctity of the mosque. Both militants hiding inside mosque neutralised," police tweeted.

80-year-old Sopore man dies of Covid-19, J&K toll 74

Srinagar June 19 : The death toll due to covid-19 rose to 74 in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday as one more elderly person died at SKIMS Soura here.

An 80-year-old man from Sopore was confirmed as the latest fatality due to the virus and according to Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Professor Farooq Jan, he died two days after his admission to the hospital at 1:25 p.m. on June 17 with “hypertension,T2DM with CAP with cardiac failure”.

So far, 74 people have succumbed to the virus in J&K—nine from Jammu and 65 from the Valley. Srinagar district with 18 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 13, Shopian (9), Kulgam (8), six each in Anantnag and Jammu, Kupwara (five), Budgam (three ), Pulwama (two) while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Doda, Udhampur and Rajouri.
