The funniest part of this story is also the most useful.
A filmmaker bought a 2009 iMac for £15 and shot a “Christopher Notlan” parody entirely on its we**am. It blew up to more than 14 million views, then a 30 person volunteer crew helped turn the bit into The Oddersy, a 10 minute retelling of The Odyssey shot on the same iMac.
They drilled it to mount it, ran it off a camping battery, used Lime bikes as dollies, clipped phone lenses over the we**am, and leaned on Photo Booth for effects. When the iMac kept freezing, they strapped an iPad to the back, beamed the feed, and screen recorded the iPad instead. Even a perfect take could get ruined by a cursor or a software update notification.
While everyone debates AI and Hollywood, the real lesson here is about constraints. When limitations become the brief, teams stop waiting for ideal conditions and start building clever systems. That approach works in marketing and operations too, not just filmmaking. Clear constraints tend to create clearer decisions.
If you had to pick one constraint to improve your team’s output this month, what would it be, time, tools, budget, or format.
