Who’s ready to go back to their offices? Who wants to keep working remotely? My guess is there are a lot of both.
-Some of us love being in the office. We like meeting and collaborating face to face. We like the clear physical boundary between work and home.
-Others of us may have discovered for the first time that we’re more effective when we work remotely. We work better with fewer distractions. We can keep an eye on our households and still get things done. We’ve reclaimed our commute time. Whatever stress or anxiety being in the office caused has been eliminated.
-Coming out of the pandemic, my guess is that companies who have the best retention will be the ones who figure out how to let their employees work in the way that best suit them.
-Let the office folks back into the office. Let the remote folks work remote (And enjoy the lower rent payments from your smaller office footprint.)
-A lot of employment experts are saying that this two-tiered system will give the extroverts who like to go to the office an advantage in the workplace. But let’s face it. They’ve ALWAYS had the advantage.
-It’s going to be up to people way smarter than me to figure out how to ensure their hardworking-but-remote employees don’t get left behind.
-And hope they figure it out. Because I think there are a lot of people who aren’t going back into the cubicle.
(Full disclosure, I’d set myself up as a work-at-home freelance copywriter and voiceover producer before the pandemic even started. So you know which camp I’m in.)
