It is that time of year again!
Snakes are on the move with the warmer weather, and if you're not a fan (I hope to change your mind), I'd like to share a few tips!
* Be sure to keep a clean area around your home. Remove any debris on the ground, heavy brush, or any potential hiding places.
* Watch your step! When outdoors in the snakes environment, wear closed toe shoes, and don't reach anywhere that you can't visually see. If at night, be sure to carry a flashlight.
* Remove any potential food sources. This could be pet food that attracts mice, a bird feeder, or anything similar. If it attracts a snakes prey item, it will attract snakes.
* Be vigilant when outdoors with children and pets. If your children are old enough, begin teaching them about snakes, and to immediately back up and call you if they see one. Snakes are not bad, they just should be given a bit more space.
* Don't harm a snake! Coexisting is the best and ideal course of action. If this isn't possible, join Free snake relocation directory on Facebook. They will remove it to a nearby suitable environment. A quick spray from a water hose will also get them on the move!
Snakes are a vital part of the ecosystem, and should be respected. Not only do they consume rodents, their venom has been used in many medical settings, and is being studied for more applications!
If you want more snakes, do the opposite of everything I said above 🙂.
