😄 Kikuyu Culture Back Then: When Life Was Ruled by Fear, Respect & Beatings
Back in the day kwa Gĩkũyũ land, life ilikuwa very simple — but very scary 😂
First of all, an elder never repeated themselves. Ukisikia mara moja, hiyo ilikuwa final warning. Second warning? Viboko ilikuwa loading. No negotiations, no explanations, no “but I was just—”. And the beating was not limited, any weapon passed the test.
Girls walijua, ukikaa kwa mlango vibaya ama kumangamanga sana, guka anakuangalia and that look alone ilikuwa discipline. Boys? Hawa walikua special victims. You herd cows vibaya? Beat. You lose a goat? Beat. You ask too many questions? Beat for curiosity.
And don’t get it twisted — food was not democratic. Meat ilikuwa ya wazee. Kids walikuwa wanapewa soup na story. Ukipata kipande cha nyama, hiyo ilikuwa blessing ya ancestors.
Also muhimu sana — elders never apologized. If they were wrong, they’d just cough, clear throat, and change topic. That was the apology. Case closed.
But kusema ukweli, those days shaped people. Respect ilikuwa automatic, discipline ilikuwa serious, na fear ilikuwa syllabus 😂
What’s the funniest or scariest Kikuyu culture rule you remember?

Wazee walikua government, court, na police — all in one. 😆
