Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told CNBC that Ferrari’s recent Luce EV unveiling reinforced the company’s decision to cancel its own first all-electric model.

Instead of going fully electric, Lamborghini is continuing to focus on plug-in hybrids after seeing what Winkelmann described as slower EV adoption among the brand’s ultra-wealthy buyers. The automaker had originally planned to launch its first EV before 2030 as part of its $1.8 billion “Direzione Cor Tauri” electrification strategy.

The remarks come as Ferrari faces growing debate over the design of the Luce, its first EV created with former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Ferrari shares have also declined in the days following the model’s debut earlier this week.
