Vela Creative Co. began in 2019 with a simple idea and no formal plan. The name came from a constellation and the tradition of stars guiding navigators across open water. It symbolized direction, discovery, and the courage required to build something new.

As Vela grew, each project and each person added new layers to the story. The work revealed what felt aligned, what did not, and how the business wanted to evolve. Through that learning came stronger direction. Vela became more intentional, more people-centered, and more rooted in strategy.

Today, the studio stands in its next chapter with a stronger foundation and a team committed to thoughtful, lasting work. Vela helps brands find their direction through foundational clarity, brand-centered creativity, and strategic storytelling. A lot of people hit a point where doing more just… stops working.
Cue overwhelmed teams and burnt out leaders. 🫠

Most websites fail this test.

Not because they look bad.
Because they’re confusing.

Someone lands on your homepage and within a few seconds they’re trying to figure out:

What is this?
Is this for me?
What am I supposed to do next?

If that’s not clear almost immediately, people leave.

There’s a simple exercise called the 5-second “grunt test.”

Show someone your website for five seconds. Then take it away and ask them:

1️⃣ What does this company do?
2️⃣ Who is it for?
3️⃣ What should you do next?

If they can’t answer those, your website probably isn’t doing its job.

And honestly… this happens to a lot of good businesses.

Your company grows. Your offers evolve. But the website stays stuck explaining the old version.

Last night at the AAF Black Hills American Advertising Awards, we took home a Gold ADDY and a Silver ADDY for Loam Yoga’s brand identity and logo design. 🏆

Branding has been at the core of our work since day one.

We’re incredibly grateful for the trust businesses and nonprofits place in us to shape something so foundational to their growth.

I’ve always loved the end of a year.

Wrapping up projects, spending time with family, letting things slow down for a minute.

January eases you back in.
But February is my favorite.

By February, the pressure to reinvent everything is gone. You’re back in your real rhythm. And that’s when the honest reflection happens.

We work with small business owners and nonprofit leaders at every stage. And no matter where you are, there’s always a moment where you have to pause and ask:

Is this actually working?
What needs to shift?
What am I avoiding?

1️⃣ A clearly defined offer. No more blurring the lines.
2️⃣ Documented processes. If it lives in your head, it’s fragile.
3️⃣ Re-evaluating what’s working. Without making it dramatic.
4️⃣ Sustainable growth. Depth over constant expansion.
5️⃣ An annual plan we actually use.
6️⃣ Learning on quiet days. Sharpening the “boring stuff”.
7️⃣ Consistency. Even when nothing exciting is happening.

OUTS

1️⃣ Saying yes out of obligation.
2️⃣ Staying comfortable when it’s clearly time to stretch.
3️⃣ Making decisions based on how they’ll look online.
4️⃣ Trying to change everything at once.
5️⃣ Getting distracted by the next shiny thing.

Happy holidays from our team at Vela Creative Co. 🎄

We wrapped up the year with a little time together to celebrate the people behind the work. This season always feels like a good moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the partnerships and projects that made the year meaningful.
