Before indigenous rap became cool nationwide…

MC Loph was already doing it with confidence, swagger, and pure Eastern flavour.

Then Osondi Owendi happened.

A classic reborn.
A whole generation was introduced to Igbo highlife through street-hop energy and unforgettable rhythm.

MC Loph made it clear that our language, our sound, and our culture belonged in the spotlight too.

Though he passed away far too soon in 2011, his music still echoes anywhere good vibes, nostalgia, and Igbo pride meet.

Some artists make hits.
Others shift culture.

MC Loph did both.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

Professor Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure as registrar is set to expire on July 31, 2026.

According to the announcement, Professor Aina is a Computer Engineering scholar and systems expert with experience in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reform.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina reportedly began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service and later built a career around technology-driven institutional reform and examination system optimisation.

He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board.

At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would build on the achievements of his predecessor and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.

Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Governor Fubara said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates.

The Rivers State governor described the move as a sacrifice made in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state, insisting that Rivers State is “bigger than any individual".

Fubara thanked his supporters for their loyalty and acknowledged the disappointment many may feel following his withdrawal, noting that significant sacrifices had been made throughout the political process.

He also hinted at facing “immense pressures and difficult choices" but maintained that his silence in recent times was deliberate and guided by the need to protect the peace and future of Rivers State.

The governor expressed appreciation to the All Progressives Congress and to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support and encouragement.

Fubara urged APC members and supporters to remain united and committed to the party, while stressing that his decision to step aside was “not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice".

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.

What started as an investigation into alleged extortion at Abia State University has now uncovered even deeper concerns.

On the AM Show this morning, the Abia State Government received praise for its responsiveness after findings by the Special Investigative Committee revealed that a lecturer accused of extortion allegedly lacked the required academic certificates.

The Jetties and Petroleum Tank Farms Owners of Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to immediately withdraw recently approved petrol import licences issued to fuel marketers.

In a statement released on Tuesday, JETFON executive secretary Mr Olayiwola Temitope argued that the continued approval of fuel import permits is damaging to Nigeria’s economy and discouraging local industrial growth.

The association maintained that allowing fuel imports alongside domestic refining weakens local refining capacity and undermines major investments such as the Dangote Refinery.

JETFON stressed that prioritising local refining is critical to achieving long-term energy security and economic independence for Nigeria.

The group also distanced itself from the legal action reportedly being pursued by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria over the ongoing dispute surrounding fresh fuel import approvals.

The controversy follows a legal challenge filed by Dangote Refinery against the decision of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to issue new petrol import licences despite the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” policy.

DAPPMAN has, however, opposed the Dangote Refinery’s position on the matter, deepening the debate over fuel importation and local refining in the country.

About 28 youths drawn from 17 local government areas of Abia State have accused the state government of abandoning them after participating in a joint Federal and State agricultural empowerment training programme held in Osun State in November 2024.

The trainees alleged that despite completing the three-week programme, promises of post-training support for production and business development have not been fulfilled.

The group specifically accused the Abia State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture of failing to release funds reportedly approved to help them begin agricultural production and commercial activities.

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, representatives Ogbonnaya Peter, Orji Ijeoma, and Ojimgba Favour expressed frustration that over 300 Abia youths trained in Nasarawa State had allegedly received support, while their own batch had yet to benefit.

Responding to the allegations, Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Cliff Agbaeze, said the government was developing a framework to integrate the beneficiaries into ongoing agricultural and youth empowerment programmes.

He assured the trainees that they would not be abandoned and urged them to remain patient while cautioning against attempts to politicise the issue.
