Someone asked me this question yesterday.
“What is one major learning point you’ve had since starting in the design industry?”
This is my response…..
Consider your audience.
Some may say it’s cliche… but in a field where opinion is the deciding factor on whether a client wants to work with you, it is important to clearly identify one’s style and be able to produce that, even if it isn’t your style. And to be able to target a specific audience is going to be helpful in knowing what style you want to create for a said brand. All through my time in college, if there was anything that needed improving in my design, most of the time I was told to reconsider who my audience is in order to make the appropriate changes needed. With all that being said—the next time you finish up with a design, challenge yourself with this question… “Who is my audience, and does this design cater to that designated group?” And see how it impacts your work overall!
