What a fun summer vacation day spent with this sweet mom-and-daughter duo! 💕

Both need clear and bright colors—but Mom (Courtney) is a Winter and daughter (Nori) is a Spring! One cool, one warm…proof that family members can have different color palettes.

I still remember being Nori’s age and attending a makeup party with a few friends where we learned how to apply makeup. I faithfully wore the blush shade I was recommended that day for the next 18 years! It wasn’t until I had my own Color Analysis that I discovered a rosier pink was actually much more flattering for my cool undertones.

It’s such a great reminder that the little moments we experience as children can stay with us for decades.

One of my favorite parts of a Color Analysis is teaching young ladies how to apply makeup and introducing them to the shades that truly complement them. Our simple 90-second makeup routine is perfect for tweens who are just beginning to wear makeup. Instead of feeling pressured to buy whatever is trending or whatever the “best sellers” are at the makeup counter, they learn which shades will flatter them for a lifetime.

Like many Autumns I see, we warmed up the blush and lip shades she was used to wearing. Before an Autumn meets me, they’ve often been reaching for rose pinks, mauves, and plum lip colors because they’re familiar—and heavily promoted at makeup counters.

But for many Autumns, there are even better options.

Many of my Autumn clients think I’m a little crazy when I recommend a rust lipstick at first! Yet time and time again, they’re amazed by how rich, elegant, and harmonious it looks once they see it on.
