1 simple tip to get more Upwork conversions outside the US:

Focus on your keywords.

- Go to LinkedIn
- Go to the search bar
- Type in your service (e.g, “WordPress developer”)
- Click on ‘Jobs’
- Find 5-10 job listings

In those listings:

- Look at the commonalities/patterns in their descriptions

- Format your profile and tailor it to the way your clients write

- Add those keywords to your title.

For example:

In the job listings, users could be misspelling WordPress for word press.

Even if it’s incorrect, you still want to write the way your clients write.

Regardless if it's wrong, It helps your visibility.

Living outside North America can make freelancing hard.

With this strategy, you can get around it.

1 simple tip to get clients as a freelancer on LinkedIn:

Lose the attitude.

Clients aren’t there for your charity.

Help them, solve their problems, write posts advising them.

Try it.

I earned six figures in my first year of freelancing:

I broke my system down into 6 steps👇🏻

1. Have complete profiles.
On Upwork, LinkedIn, and your website.

2. Have a complete price list available.
Always have 3 tiers of pricing for your services - this helps you appeal to a wider audience.

3. Build a strong portfolio within your website.

4. Sell your services:
Add the availability to accept payment to make the customer journey as seamless as possible.

5. Work on your outbound marketing with a daily system.
Constantly do things that will get you leads and sales.

Give yourself a daily goal to hit for outbound outreach.

Mine is:
20 proposals on Upwork
20 contacts on Linkedin

6. Pricing
As a freelancer, you need to have a wide pricing range.

Not an hourly fee or standard rate.

You need:
Hourly Rate
Flat Rate Service Fee
Retainer Rate

This will enhance how you appeal to clients.

To maximize the utility of this system, I try to be as busy as possible.

➔ Reduce your fee to build a portfolio and client base.
Increase your rates once at full capacity.

Getting High-ticket clients:
Once you land an offer, you are about 75% done with your current project.

Propose new projects to keep a flow of work coming in regularly.

Increase your income stability through diverse rates.

This gives you a constant stream of income.

Creates stability.

That’s it.

My 6-step system to 6-figures while freelancing:

Have complete profiles
Have a complete price list available
Build a strong portfolio on your website
Sell your services
Use a daily system

Feeling invisible?

Here’s how to stand out in the crowd.

One of the critical pieces to the puzzle is making sure that you’re seen by clients.

This saves you a lot of leg work having to go out and make contacts.

One tip to do today is optimize your keywords and add them to your profile.

How do I find the right keywords?

I check 10 job postings for careers that I would like and look for common words and phrases the recruiter is using.

By speaking like your audience, you increase the likelihood clients will find you.

Remember that your content should be optimized for search first, then once you start ranking you tune your content for the reader.

This will 10X your search appearances.

What are your keywords? Post them below and I’ll help you tune them up.

Hearing crickets every time you send a proposal on ?

Looking at how many messages I receive from freelancers wanting me to send work their way, it's not surprising.

Here are the dos and don'ts of proposal writing:

DO
Keep your message short. Think 15 seconds in reading length
Focus on Upper, Middle, and Lower funnel messages for the structure, What, Why, and How
Have a call to action, and ask the client to begin

DON'T
Focus on you
Write epic stories
Beg for work or use guilt
Make spelling and grammar mistakes

Drop your proposals below, and let's tune them up!

Freelancers work thousands of hours and end up suspended from platforms, often for things they never knew were a problem. Or they invest a ton of time into one project, only to have it blow up.

The problem comes from tripling down on one channel. Sure, you're successful now, but what happens if that channel or platform changes?

Achieve success by diversifying once you're successful on one platform:

• LinkedIn success? Add in Instagram and Twitter
• Upwork success? Add in Fiverr and Braintrust
• Facebook Ads success? Add in Display and Reddit Ads

If you've put all of your eggs in one freelance basket, you're one algorithm away from a severe reduction in income.

I've divided my income into multiple channels over the last three years, and I suggest you do the same, 25% from Upwork, 25% from my Site organically, 25% from LinkedIn, and 25% from Google.

Start diversifying the moment you become successful and add a new channel to your daily system.

The dreaded "ick."

Client stopped responding to you? Here's what to do.

You can't win 'em all, but you can improve your chances every time a potential client pulls a vanishing act.

Ghosting is normal now. You feel it's going well, whether it's dating or business, then "p**f!" they disappear.

😬 Don't blame the client. You did something or didn't do something to cause this. It's your career, so it's your job to figure it out. Read through your message exchanges. Small things can be big turn-offs. As you get higher and higher in your career, expectations go up, and you have to get it right. Check for spelling mistakes, grammar, and especially tone.
🤥 Saying "no one is giving me work" a lot? Think about what you're doing. Are you offering the other person value? Or are you just begging for work? One hand washes the other, so always leave potential clients with valuable pieces of advice.
👏 Realize that the client isn't there to help you. They are paying for your service, and your job is to make their life easier. If you're sending a big long proposal that's all about you, you're going to lose. Proposals should be all about the client, and if the client sees that you're focused on them, they will be naturally curious about you.

Keep the above as a mantra when you're speaking to a potential client and I guarantee you will improve your chances.

What's the peak of freelancing?

When clients come to you.

But how can you give yourself this opportunity?

Here are 3 top tips I use to optimize my profile to give my clients confidence in my abilities.

✍️ Keywords - Ya ya, obvious right? One place I find is the best for this are job descriptions. Want to get attention? Use the language in the job descriptions.

🛑 Stop the Scroll - Headlines need to go beyond just a standard description. It's your chance to show off your creativity. Can you answer a Why and What in one concise sentence?

📖 Tell a Story - What happened? How does it help the customer? What did the customer say after? Start with the story, and its benefit, and wrap it up with a testimonial. Success sandwich.

Drop your headlines below, and let's make them awesome! 👇
