Islanders importing vehicles into Guernsey are reminded of the legal requirement under the Motor Taxation and Licensing Law, 1987 to register their vehicle through Driver & Vehicle Licensing and obtain a local licence plate.
Guernsey residents must register their vehicle within 48 hours of importation. Persons taking up residence in Guernsey must register their vehicle within 14 days. After this time, vehicle owners are reminded that unregistered vehicles are unlawful to drive on the public highway and as such a fine may be imposed on those committing the offence. Those coming forward to register their vehicle, even if their vehicle has been unregistered for some time, will not be investigated.
