If you know somebody in Gary, Lake Station, or Hobart, send them this.

The most important part is slide 2. The state is asking people NOT to apply to FEMA yet, because doing it now can delay your help later. Indiana has an emergency declaration, not a major disaster declaration. Call 211 and report your damage instead. That report is what gets federal money released to Lake County.

Second most important: there is a $5,000 state grant per household for uninsured losses, and most people do not know it exists. Call 211.

If you are on SNAP and lost food, you have 10 days from the loss. That clock is already running.

211 also connects you to shelters, hotel vouchers, charging stations, and food. One number.

Business owners: report your damage too, it counts toward the county total. SBA disaster loans are not open for this storm yet.
