Why should we pay cash everywhere with banknotes instead of a card ?

- I have a $50 banknote in my pocket. Going to a restaurant and paying for dinner with it.

The restaurant owner then uses the bill to pay for the laundry.

The laundry owner then uses the bill to pay the barber.

The barber will then use the bill for shopping.

After an unlimited number of payments, it will still remain a $50 value, which has fulfilled its purpose to everyone who used it for payment and the bank has jumped dry from every cash payment transaction made.

BUT

IF I come to a restaurant and pay digitally via Card,

- the bank fees for my payment transaction charged to the seller are 3%, so around $1.50

( and so will be the fee of $1.50 for each further payment transaction )

-for the owner re laundry or
- payments of the owner of the laundry shop,
- or payments of the barber etc.....

Therefore, after 30 transactions, the initial $50 will exist at only $5 and the remaining $45 has become the property of the bank … thanks to all of the digital transactions and fees!

Use it or lose it folks…

Once it’s gone we won’t get it back!

Cash is king!

Cayman General Expenses

From the cost of a bath towel and an alarm clock, to the cost of monthly rent on a one-bedroom and standard health insurance fees, Cayman Resident breaks it all down for you on this one handy table.

Below we provide a comprehensive expense table of the general costs for goods and services in the Cayman Islands. Please note that the prices below are in Cayman dollars and to convert to US dollars add approximately 20%.

For apartments or houses to rent the best thing to do is ask real estate agents, who specialise in rentals, for their list of available properties and also check out ECayTrade.com. Obviously there is a wide cross-section of places available, and more building is going on all the time adding to the Island's inventory, so you might be able to find an older one bedroom apartment a little further out of George Town for as little as CI$800 a month and a brand new one in South Sound for over CI$3000. If you are willing to share a house/apartment there are often rooms going for rent in an apartment, and again the choice can really vary from the high end executive to the very basic. Some will have bills included and others will expect you to pay your share of the monthly water, electricity and cable TV bills.
