Elke dag gesels ons met mekaar in die kantoor oor hoe ons dinge beter kan doen, goeie resultate vir ons kliënte te lewer en werklik na hul behoeftes om te sien. Dit is nie altyd maklik nie, maar niks is lekkerder as om van ’n gelukkige kliënt te hoor nie.

Iets wat nóg beter is as om dit direk van hulle te hoor, is om dit van ander mense te hoor. Wanneer iemand bel en sê, “So-en-so het ons na julle verwys. Hulle is baie tevrede met wat julle vir hulle doen. Ons soek ook daarvan.”

Four years of Socialsmith.
Four years of chasing a dream, of not having to sit in endless traffic on the way to jobs we don't like, and four years of reaping the reward of being brave.

I can't quite put into words what it means to be sitting in this position, four years later.
When I started this business, a lot of people thought I wouldn't be able to earn enough as a "freelancer" and that my husband would need to support me. But here we are - and my "little business" is not only supporting my family, but four people.

This business has enabled me to work with my husband every day (even though we do frustrate each other some days).
It has allowed me to be more available for my kids and to be the mother I dreamed of being.
It allowed our family to follow our dreams, move to the beautiful little "dorpie" of Stilbaai, and enjoy a better quality of life.

It hasn't always been easy. We fight every day to be here, and we work harder than ever before. But the reward is worth it. I am proud. And we're just getting started!

Gister het ons Chrisna se verjaarsdag gevier, en ons sê dankie aan God wat haar nie net vir nóg ’n draai om die son gespaar het nie, maar haar ook oorvloedig geseën het.

Chrisna, dankie vir die mens wat jy is, die liefde, die omgee, die grappies en die verstaan. Vir elkeen wat jou al ontmoet en tyd saam met jou deurgebring het weet, Chrisna is ’n lekker mens!

Geluk met jou verjaarsdag. Mag God jou en almal vir wie jy lief is, sommer baie seën in hierdie jaar. Ons wens vir jou is ewige geluk. En ons wens vir onsself is dat jy altyd deel van ons hier by Socialsmith sal wees.

“As ons nie die probleem kan uitsort, ken ons iemand wat dit kan uitsort”, sê Johann - gans te maklik.

So twee maande gelede bel oom Koos. “Ek kort hulp. Ek het ’n webblad (stokoud), maar dit is tyd vir verandering.” Die begroting is knap. “Wat van ’n revamp?” sê ek sommer uit die vuis uit. Hoe moeilik kan dit wees? Ek ken die oom, ek weet ek kan help, en ek besluit ek gaan dit binne sy begroting maak pas.

Na die kwotasie-goedkeuring is dit tyd om weg te spring. Oops… die webblad is nie ontwikkel soos ek oorspronklik aangeneem het nie. Ek gaan nie karring nie. Ons gaan hom sommer oor bou. Dit beteken die projek gaan meer tyd vat as wat ons kwoteer het, maar dit maak nie meer saak nie, want die kwotasie is aanvaar en ek kan nie nou met ’n nuwe storie kom nie. My fout. Ons gaan ons woord hou en hierdie projek deur sien.

Ek spring weg en skryf die inhoud. Dan volg die instruksies vir Chrisna. Sy moet dit bou. SEO word gedoen, User Experience word geoptimaliseer. Heng, ek is trots. Oom Koos check en gee ’n thumbs up. “Let’s go, Chrisna.” En sy bou dit presies soos ek dit in my geestesoog gesien het.

Goed. Nou moet ons launch… en daar slaan die pawpaw die fan. Die domain behoort aan iemand anders. Die hosting skuif. Niks wil met niks praat of werk nie.

Gelukkig het ons altyd ’n boks vol trieks, en ek bel die persoon wat ek weet gaan kan help, Jaco. Hy kan my skaars onthou. Hy ken eintlik net vir Rebecca… net-net. Maar dit was lank terug. Hy wil help. Ons paaie kruis weer, en wie weet wat hou die toekoms in as hy my vandag help?

Sy faktuur is BAIE vriendelik. Hy spring weg. Hy het ’n duisend vrae. Tussen hom, oom Koos, Chrisna, die ou en nuwe diensverskaffer trek ons hierdie ding weer reguit.
En daar launch hy… soos ’n nuut gediensde stoomtrein.

Die projek is afgehandel en almal is gelukkig.

Die uiteinde is; dit maak nie saak wat jy ken nie, maar wie jy ken. En die les in hierdie boodskap? Moet nooit ’n brug brand nie, want eendag moet jy dalk weer oor hom loop.
Ek is so trots op die mense binne én buite ons besigheid wat ons projekte laat werk!
