The common or gray wolf is the largest member of its family. Its body length is 160 cm, and its height at the withers is 90 cm. The weight of individual animals can reach 70 kg. Legs are high, strong; the paw is larger than a dog's and more elongated, the length of the track is about 9–12 cm, width is 7 cm. The color of the fur is light gray with an admixture of rusty-ocher and black tones. Depending on the area of distribution, features of color and size, up to 40 subspecies of the gray wolf are distinguished.
