It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation and only a moment to lose it. It’s a cliché, but it’s truer than ever – at least when applied to wealthy families in the age of social media.

In an era when nearly every tweet, Facebook post or media comment is taken as a potentially divisive political statement, high-net-worth people need to tread carefully online or risk ruining one of their most valuable assets: personal and corporate standing.

The myriad of additional threats which could directly impact the client’s reputation include poor cyber security and insufficient asset protection.

Good news for those concerned with the volume of slanderous content about people on the internet…including websites that publish such material and then extort victims to pay to have it removed.

Google plans to change its search algorithm to prevent predatory websites from appearing in the list of results when someone searches for a person’s name.

also recently created a new concept it calls “known victims.” When people report to the company that they have been attacked on sites that charge to remove posts, Google will automatically suppress similar content when their names are searched for. “Known victims” also includes people whose n**e photos have been published online without their consent, allowing them to request suppression of explicit results for their names.

Google plans to change its algorithm to prevent predatory websites and slander from appearing in search results. Victims can now report it.
