Two years ago, I was about to sign a deal with a big client.
The client was ready.
The conversations were positive.
The work was almost confirmed.
Then came one simple question:
“Where is your office?”
I didn’t have a physical office at that time.
He paused and said:
“Oh… how should we trust you?”
That one sentence stayed with me.
Not because I felt insulted.
Not because I wanted to prove him wrong.
But because I understood something important:
Business is not only about what you can deliver. It is also about how confidently someone can trust you to deliver it.
That evening, I made a decision.
And within the next month, I inaugurated my office.
It wasn't about ego.
It wasn't about showing off.
It wasn't about having a fancy address.
It was about a commitment.
A commitment to myself, my clients, and the business I wanted to build.
That experience taught me a lesson I still carry today:
If you want to work long-term and work with bigger clients, trust is your biggest asset.
Your skills matter.
Your ideas matter.
Your results matter.
But before all of that, a client needs to believe:
“I can trust this person.”
And sometimes, earning that trust means going one step further than what is expected.
That office was not just a physical space.
It was a statement:
I’m serious about what I’m building. And I’m serious about delivering what I promise.
Two years later, I still believe the same thing:
Deals may start with capability, but long-term relationships are built on trust.
Deals may start with capability, but long-term relationships are built on trust.
