3 QUESTIONS with...
CAKRUX
CACRUX has only been around for around a year. How did it come about and when can we expect a complete album after the 2 singles?
Putro: Hello, nice to meet you. CAKRUX is just a fun band. We are too lazy to think about anything... We just want to make simple music. We've done everything on our own so far. There's just no money either. Our first demo was written during a jam session in a café. We packed equipment into a friend's café and just recorded it with a laptop. We also have a friend with a recording studio that he made available to us. So far, we've recorded almost 30 songs in 2 days. The concept behind it is simply to make music with the cheapest instruments. For example, we found a bass and a guitar for 20 dollars, sprayed paint on it and pulled 4 strings on the guitar and 2 strings on the bass. That's it.
The video "Marhaban ya Ramadan" is about Ramadan. Is religion resp. Ramadan so important in Indonesia that you have to write a song about it? The reference to religion in Europe is constantly decreasing, how is it in Indonesia?
Putro: Yes, Ramadan, is a big deal here in Indonesia. The song is about what people do during Ramadan. We do not fast but pretend to fast. And, of course, other things too. The idea behind this is that there's a big organization here that's looking for people who don't fast. which we think is pretty fu**ed up. The song is pure sarcasm... Ramadan is the holy month, yes, we agree on that, but religion is private for everyone. No one can decide on it!
Here in Europe, music from Indonesia is not necessarily a big topic. How satisfied are you personally with the reactions to your new single, especially in terms of reactions in Europe. What expectations did you have and were they met?
Putro: Yes, I know, it's not a big issue there. You know Indonesian music from the traditional field or the metal scene. Like I said, we don't care about success/attention, that's why we only sing in Indonesian. We're just having fun and it's all about us. But I'm glad to have done this interview and to have found a new friend.
