The first Van Gogh painting to be authenticated since 1995! The painting 'Le Blute-Fin Mill' belonged to art curator Dirk Hannema, and was authenticated in 2010 as an original Van Gogh. Hannema bought the painting in 1975 from a dealer in Paris, paying 5,000 guilders for this and another work. Despite not being taken seriously at the time, 25 years after his death, we were proven wrong about this painting.

The work was typical of Van Gogh's style at that time, with its brightly coloured, rough brushstrokes on the canvas. Louis van Tilborgh, our Senior Researcher, stated that it was painted in 1886 when the artist resided in Paris. The canvas even bore the stamp of an art store that he frequently visited, and the pigments used were consistent with Van Gogh's other works. This painting ‘adds to his oeuvre’, said Van Tilborgh. ‘It can be linked to certain works of Van Gogh from that period, although not many’.
