WordPress now powers over 41% of the web, and is core to our strategy here at Sprucely Designed. We think the development and progress being made there will impact all our clients, even those of you who aren't currently using WordPress.

Big security news this week - if you currently utilize GoDaddy Managed WordPress Hosting, it's time to take some immediate action. Site database and file system usernames and passwords were stored in plaintext and accessed by an attacker beginning in September (they just announced the attack today).

We recommend you do the following to make sure you are secure following the breach.
1. Reset the password(s) for all WordPress Admin accounts (and any other account if you reuse that password elsewhere).
2. If you haven't already, turn on 2-Factor Authentication for your WordPress admin accounts.
3. You can also review your security logs to monitor any strange login activity to your site.
4. Install a security plugin such as Wordfence or Sucuri to scan your site for malware and monitor for attacks.

It's also possible you could see an increase in phishing emails to your WordPress admin email address. Always remember to check the sender of strange emails - if it looks suspicious and doesn't come from a recognizable account, there is a good chance it's phishing.
