I noticed that there are many wonderful suggestions in the world, including the notion of kindness. I saw a shirt today that says "Be Kind" and I got to thinking how it feels a bit bossy and avoidant, as if it is my responsibility to be kind and not the person wearing the shirt. It also reminded me of what one of my mentors says in that you must be a certain way or do a certain thing so that I can feel better about myself...

There are many people willing to encourage kindness and to tell me to be kind. The shirts that say "Be Kind" feel like they are being bossy and also avoiding personal responsibility in being kind.

I don't always know when a memory, thought, word, scent, or sound activates an opportunity to learn and grow. I feel grateful for people who teach me skills to navigate the discomfort and for people who inspire me to laugh loudly in celebration of progress.
