A recent travel story for Western Art & Architecture on Park City, Utah, from Sundance Film Fest and small-town charm to epic pow and mountain culture.
Visit Park City

Wander down Park City’s Main Street on an evening in the height of the winter tourist season, and the small-town charm is palpable. A trolley makes its way on the snow-covered streets of historic Old Town. Breweries, distilleries, fine dining establishments, art galleries, and boutiques...

A story of mine in the latest The Land Report newsletter... if this passes, Wyoming would be the first state in US history to sell state trust land inside a national park on the open market. A public comment period is open until December 1. The Wyoming Board of Land Commissioners will announce its decision on December 7.

The Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments (OSLI) announced the potential auction of the 640-acre Kelly Parcel at the eastern edge of Grand Teton National Park. If the auction occurs, Wyoming would be the first state in US history to sell state trust land inside a national park on the open ma...

A recent travel story on Jackson Hole, Wyoming for Western Art & Architecture, highlighting the iconic Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, their amazing Fall Arts Festival — which includes the Western Design Conference — the National Museum of Wildlife Art and National Elk Refuge, and so much more packed into this groovy little ski town.

Many people never forget the first time they laid eyes on the Tetons. As one of the most iconic mountain ranges in the U.S., they tower over Jackson Hole, Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone National Park, with the Grand Teton standing tallest at 13,766 feet....

All about Montana — kind of... a recent story I covered for the travel website Going

In Montana, you’ll find dinosaur fossils from more species than any other state in the US, huckleberries, and vibrant Wild West character.

A recent travel story on Cody, Wyoming for Western Art & Architecture... outdoor activities, an amazing Western art collection at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and By Western Hands, and an authentic taste of the Old West! Cody Yellowstone

Legend has it that when William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody was visiting Wyoming in 1894, his son-in-law brought him to the top of the Bighorn Mountains. Looking out over the Shoshone River and the sprawling Bighorn Basin, the entrepreneur and legendary showman clearly saw an...

My ramblings about art... My Editor Note from the latest Big Sky Journal ARTS 2021 issue. It's a great issue if I do say so myself!

One thing I’ve always loved about the Northern Rockies is the “cowboy casualty” if you will. There are few venues that require anything fancier than jeans — as illustrated by the general manager of Missoula’s 1889 restaurant in our “Dining Out” column. “When people call...

When a Texas family stumbled upon a slopeside lot at the Yellowstone Club, a private residential community and ski area in Big Sky, Montana, they knew it was a keeper. Ideally situated for the ultimate ski-in/ski-out experience, the site fit the husband’s dream to have...

Flashback... A story I wrote for Women's Adventure magazine about near-death experiences in the wilderness...

There’s nothing like a near-death experience to change your life forever. Kayaking, trail running—even just being in the outdoors—is a gamble.

My latest for Western Art & Architecture about the amazingly talented (and humble) Wyoming painter Tucker Smith and his traveling retrospective "A Celebration of Nature," featuring original works from his 50-plus years behind the easel. The exhibit, which launched at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, will be on display at the National Sporting Library & Museum in Middleburg, Virginia from April 9-August 22 before moving to the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia from Sept. 11-January 2, 2022. Catch it if you can!

In 1991, just as his career was about to take flight, Tucker Smith created a 10-by-12-inch painting of a scene he’d observed at the Kentucky Derby. Capturing the commotion before the post parade, Derby Day depicts horses and riders entering the field in front of...
