A client of mine asked ChatGPT what it knew about her business the other day.
She was surprised when it showed her old phone number. The one she hadn't used in years and had honestly forgotten she'd ever put out there.
She panicked a little and wondered if she'd lost any business because of it.
AI tools like ChatGPT don't have some magic direct line into your business. They're pulling together whatever they can find about you from the web, your website, old directory listings, Facebook, Google, wherever your name shows up. When your info isn't consistent everywhere, it gets harder for AI and search engines to confirm it's actually looking at your business, and that old number was proof of exactly that.
This is why keeping your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP for short) consistent everywhere is so important. It's not just about looking professional. It's about making sure the AI tools and search engines collecting info about your business are actually getting the right information.
If you're curious what ChatGPT or Google might be saying about your business, ask ChatGPT yourself and see what comes back. If something looks off and you want a hand sorting it out, send me a message.
