Did you spot what's missing?

>> It's the response from the business owner!

Here's what most small business owners don't realize: your reply isn't for the person who already booked you. It's for people trying to decide whether or not they should!

Every time you respond, you're adding fresh, timestamped content tied to a real client experience, sitting on a page Google and AI tools already trust more than almost anything else about your business.

Don't waste that chance with a simple "Thanks so much!" A reply like "So glad to hear you're happy with Lucy's new haircut" gives search engines and AI tools exactly the kind of specific detail that helps match your business to the next person searching.

Unanswered reviews don't just sit there unnoticed either. AI notices! They quietly signal a business that isn't paying attention. In a world where people are using AI tools more and more to recommend a pet sitter or trainer for them, that's not a small thing to ignore.

Stop what you're doing and go reply to your three most recent reviews right now, even the old ones. Mention something specific from the visit. It only takes a couple minutes and may just be the final push someone needs to hire you.

That question you get from almost every potential client, right before they book? Don't let it live and die in your DMs.

Put it on your website. Use the same words they use when they ask it.

Here's why that matters more than you might think: when you answer it on your website, two things happen at once:

- Your next potential client reads it and feels like you already know them.

- And when someone nearby types that same question into Google or asks ChatGPT, your answer is what's sitting there waiting.

One question. One answer on your site. That's the whole move.

So, what's the question you hear almost every single time? Drop it below, I'd bet it's the same one a few other people reading this would ask.

Here's something I see on pet business websites: the address only lives in the footer.

AI doesn't put as much weight on that as it does when your address (or your location!) shows up in actual sentences. Swipe through for the quick fix →

Location is just one of the five signals I break down step by step in my AI Visibility Workbook for pet businesses. Link is in the comments, and it's just $7

Do you have a Yelp account for your business? If not, you may want to rethink that!

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗗𝗜𝗬 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿?

I get this question a lot, usually from pet sitters, dog walkers, groomers, and trainers who are either just starting out or need a new website because the one they have isn’t bringing in enough clients. The answer isn’t the same for everybody.

I’ve been building websites since 2001, so I’ve seen this enough times to have some pretty strong opinions about it.

If you're trying to decide which way to go, read my latest blog post. I'll put the link in the comments.

A client of mine asked ChatGPT what it knew about her business the other day.

She was surprised when it showed her old phone number. The one she hadn't used in years and had honestly forgotten she'd ever put out there.

She panicked a little and wondered if she'd lost any business because of it.

AI tools like ChatGPT don't have some magic direct line into your business. They're pulling together whatever they can find about you from the web, your website, old directory listings, Facebook, Google, wherever your name shows up. When your info isn't consistent everywhere, it gets harder for AI and search engines to confirm it's actually looking at your business, and that old number was proof of exactly that.

This is why keeping your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP for short) consistent everywhere is so important. It's not just about looking professional. It's about making sure the AI tools and search engines collecting info about your business are actually getting the right information.

If you're curious what ChatGPT or Google might be saying about your business, ask ChatGPT yourself and see what comes back. If something looks off and you want a hand sorting it out, send me a message.

My latest blog post is all about service area pages. Service area pages are crucial for businesses that serve a local area. A lot of businesses already have service area pages, but the type of content needed to make them really help you get found is key. In my blog post I explain it all. Check the comments for the link...
