I have watched businesses move from print directories to websites, from websites to Google rankings, from rankings to paid search, from paid search to social media, and now into a new phase where AI is influencing how people find, compare, and choose who they want to work with.

Search behaviour is no longer limited to typing a query into Google and reviewing the results one by one. More people are using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude to ask detailed questions, compare options, and narrow down which businesses seem relevant before they ever visit a website.
