The world would have you believe you need millions of followers to make a difference. Don't believe it.

Over the past 6 months I've started to consistently use Instagram, Facebook, and now LinkedIn as a creative outlet to share everything from my fitness journey to my gratitude practice to my thoughts on learning and work life.

Did I become a world famous influencer? I think you already know the answer to that.

But, you know what did happen? Friends and acquaintances from all walks of life started reaching out to me to share:

*What's on their mind, knowing I was a safe space
*How they could relate to my posts and felt seen
*How I'd positively impacted their life in some way

I realized, I don't need a million followers to make a difference, and neither do you.

Take a chance. Be your authentic self.
Share your story. There is someone out there who needs to hear it.

We're using Rise to speed up the development process for our customers, because we know that you need your training to be good, but also delivered quickly.

---------------------

Let's talk Rise.

I love this tool by Articulate, because it makes development so quick.

Between Terry Williams and I, we've tried out most of the features at this point, but I have to wonder, how could we push it further?

What are some creative ways you've used Rise to create unique learning experiences for your audiences?

Terry and I have both used the button functionality to try to push our use of the tool. Terry's used it to ask learners to visit a site outside of the course for exploration/learning, and then to come back and interact with questions in the course about what they found. He's also tried out using the 'send email' ex*****on button to encourage learners to send more open-ended question responses into a moderator.

I've used buttons to create scenarios with more flexibility in the tool. I didn't want the standard scenario interaction the tool comes with, so I used buttons to create branching for scenario answers to create my own interaction in the tool.

I'm sure we're just at the tip of the iceberg here. How are you using Rise creatively today? Drop your favorite uses/idea below.

> What voice comes to mind when I say "AI voice?"

?

Do you think of the voice of your smart assistant on your phone or your smart devices in your home? Perhaps you heard that text-to-speech voice that's still sometimes used.

> I hear the voices of WellSaid Labs. It's something Terry Williams started using to put voiceover in the courses he was working on until the actual voiceover became available.

*You know what? When he showed it to me for the first time, I thought it was the actual voiceover. Yes, some of the AI generated speech is that good. I can still remember when earlier in my career a vendor tried to pass-on AI generated voiceover as the 'real' voiceover work in a course. It was obvious, and we sent it back with notes saying as much.

> But, now it's come so far, that I've started using it to test out and even write my audio scripting. It takes seconds to enter in the scripting and generate the voiceover clip. I can hear almost instantaneously how it might sound when read aloud, and correct course before the script would ever reach voiceover talent. It also helps me identify what words I may need to spell out or provide clarification on for voiceover talent. I've found it to be a great asset in improving my voiceover writing.

> While there is no replacement for the unique, impactful spin true voiceover talent can add to a script, I also think there is value in using the AI voiceover not just for script writing or placeholder purposes, but also as the 'real' voiceover in some courses. It's cheaper, faster and comes with the ability to adjust on the fly or based on stakeholder feedback, which all lend it to being a great rapid development resource. We plan to use it more and more on the right projects!

👋 Howdy everyone, Kristina here.

Writing.

I've been thinking a lot about it lately.

But, before that, I was thinking about video.

Video is the big thing in learning right now. On the surface, it seems that nobody wants to read anymore. They'd rather watch a video, and video in learning has been expanding, and sometimes it feels like, swallowing other delivery methods whole.

Why is this?

> Well, for one, video is no pervasive in our everyday lives, so it's expected as an option to learn.

> Then there is that it's inherently more engaging to many people.

> And to give credit where it's due, some things are better explained through video, like things that are visual in nature (explaining how to use something) or where it helps to read visual cues (watching a customer service conversation).

Okay Kristina, where is this going again?

The Instructional Designer in me cringes at how much video has taken over the field of learning because it's for the most part, a completely passive way to take in information. Passive = less effective.

And then the developer in me cringes, because needing to make everything a video greatly increases the complexity of development. This is especially true when the content doesn't lend itself to that type of format.

But Kristina, weren't you talking about writing? Yes, I'm getting there. Thanks for the reminder.

I've been thinking about the whole 'people don't like to read' thing and the push to passive learning delivery methods. You know what I really think this is? People don't like to read boring things. They have to expend effort to read, so we have to make it worth their while to do so.

And, now we're full circle, since this brings me back to writing.

I haven't seen a large focus on it in the Instructional Design field. It seems glossed over as a basic skillset. Most of the time it's not even mentioned in job descriptions. But, it is literally the foundation of all good training, video or otherwise.

Lately I've been paying a lot more attention to what I like to read. What's sucking me into the article? What keeps me with the hard topic? What makes me want to keep going? What makes a good story? How do great writers 'tell the story' in content that is literally not a story? What type of writing does marketing use? What strategies do they use to help the audience identify with them and want to 'buy' in?

I've been thinking a lot about writing, because I think that by becoming better writers, we can become exponentially better educators.

Maybe the key to more effective training is as simple (and complex) as our writing. So, we're brushing up this skillset to make even better training content for you!

I read a fantastic article about blockchains last night. < Who says this?

It's not for the faint of heart, but it is a fantastic example of how writing can:

> Teach a complex topic

> Engage

> Motivate to endure with something that's hard to learn

If you can handle it, take a look for a good dose of inspiration. I'll put the link in the comments.
