Bad drawing is not a talent problem.
It’s a training problem.

Most of us are not taught how to see like an artist. So we end up drawing what we know.

A symbol... A shortcut... A stored idea...

That is why your eyes always come out looking similar.

Why your trees look like every tree you’ve ever drawn.

Why drawings can feel stiff even when you try hard.

Your brain learned these visual shortcuts in childhood to help you communicate quickly. And that system never fully switched off.

So when you sit down to draw, your brain rushes ahead before your eyes have truly observed what is in front of you.

You draw the symbol.
Not the subject.

One of the most transformative things a returning artist can learn is how to interrupt that process — and actually see again. Because once you do, the drawing changes completely. It starts to feel alive.

This is one of the core things I teach at RestartART.

I once showed a drawing to my professor, feeling quite pleased with myself. He looked at it and said:

"Isn’t that artist’s work amazing, that you felt compelled to copy it?"

That was all.

But it landed.
Because deep down, I knew he was right.

Technically, I had made something.
Artistically, I had echoed.

That moment changed how I understood drawing forever.

👉 Most of us spend years learning how to copy well.
Very few ever learn how drawings are actually created. 👈

And that difference changes everything.

Real drawing confidence does not come from copying well.

It comes from learning how to observe, make decisions, and trust your own response to what is in front of you.

That takes longer in the beginning.
But unlike copying, it stays with you for life.

That is exactly why I’m developing a drawing course for adults inside RestartART — to help people build real drawing confidence instead of lifelong dependence on references.

Have you ever made something that looked 'good' — but deep down wondered whether you could create something from scratch?

If you’d like to be notified when the course launches, you can join the MuseLetters here: https://restartyourart.kit.com/cc02b4c82c

Perfectionism never says, "Don’t create". It says:
"Create … but don’t look foolish. Don’t get it wrong.”

And that is exactly how sketchbooks stay blank
pencils stay untouched
and creative dreams quietly collect dust in drawers.

If this hits home, maybe the issue is not lack of talent, discipline, or passion.

Maybe the issue is permission.
You do not need permission to be brilliant before you begin.

You need permission to begin badly.

What has perfectionism stopped you from starting?

So many returning artists are not blocked by lack of talent, but by invisible inner rules like this one.

In my MuseLetter, I write about these invisible patterns, share creative reflections, and explore the art process more deeply for people returning to art with more honesty, confidence, and depth.

Life doesn't calm down. You know this. And yet we keep making that the condition.

So many of us postpone art for the same reason we postpone joy:

"I’ll begin when life calms down."
"After the big project."
"When I retire."
"When I feel ready."

But creativity is not a reward for finishing your to-do list.

It is part of what keeps you alive, human, and inwardly well now.

You are not a project to be postponed.
And art does not ask for perfect timing — only a beginning.

If returning to art has been quietly calling you, my MuseLetters are a gentle way to begin that journey — small pockets of encouragement , insight, and creative reconnection straight in your inbox. Here's the link to the free MuseLetters: https://restartyourart.kit.com/cc02b4c82c

We promise ourselves to do things we love ✨one day✨

But life happens...

How comfortable this illusion of 'one day' make us feel...

And yet, when we look back, we realise how swiftly life went by!

Life is happening here & now

Your calling calls you everyday
It doesn't wait for 'one day'

Yes, you'll be a little rusty when you'll return to your passion

But who cares? It's not an exam!

It's NOT about how good you are at creativity.
It's about how GOOD creativity is for you!

Art that makes you meet you —
It's not the one which first begins with lines on a page...

It begins in stillness — in the quiet dialogue between you and your subject.

Each stroke becomes an act of trust, following instinct into discovery.

In absolute awareness, you lock your eyes with your subject.
In meditative stillness, your pencil touches the surface.

The strokes are an attempt to translate the muse.

Even they don't know the full picture yet.
Instinct lights the way, and your strokes follow.

This forward unfolding is art —
never pre-decided, always adventurous.

It takes you by your hand and makes you meet you —
only if you let it!

💛 At RestartART, this is what we explore and learn: art as a forward-unfolding journey, not a copy of what already exists.

If this way of learning art speaks to you, keep your sketchbook ready — we’re about to begin soon! ✨

We just stand in the way of creativity by obsessing about it ...
By forcing it ...
By making it a compulsion ....

If we let it be, it will ebb in more natural ways than we can ever imagine.

Let loose, let it flow ...

We are the medium to our creativity, not the reason.

Your attraction to creating art isn't random — it's trying to point at something deeper.

To see like an artist is never about the literal.
It is layered — a dialogue between the conscious and the subconscious.

The conscious gaze catches form.

The subconscious threads in memory, emotion, and the collective unconscious.

Attuned to inspiration, the artist becomes a sincere medium —
following the light of instinct.

And at the right moment of this gestation, the artist steps aside…
to let meaning reveal itself.

Art begins with such a deeper act of seeing.

At RestartART, this is how we learn.

If this way of looking at art calls to you, something exciting is coming soon. 💛

✨ Why settle for something as limited as perfection when art can open worlds of meaning, depth, and exploration?

Drawing is not about copying reality — it’s about expanding it.

It’s a dialogue between you and your subject, unfolding way before the pencil touches paper.

At RestartART, that’s the experience you’ll find: art as a way back to yourself.

💛 Stay tuned — I have something exciting coming for you soon!
