Some logos I made a lifetime ago during university. I had never heard of brand manuals, brand strategy or even branding before but this is when it all started.
Would you like to see some redesigns of these, turned into brands?

Just do what makes you happy, what you want, what you can. There'll always be someone who is better than you, but don't let that discourage you. The only person you should compare yourself to is you. Strive to do better than yesterday. Do what brings you joy. Improve your skills. Take some time off. Change your career. No better time than now.
What brings you joy?

A logo is not a brand, a brand is not a logo and neither of them is branding.
Imagine your company is a person. They have identifying features such as their eyes, lips, nose, hair color etc... A logo is just one of these, but you can't define a person just by their looks. They also have a certain tone of voice and speak in a certain way, a personality, goals and a vision. The latter have nothing to do with how a person looks, but they surely define them.

One of the main elements for this brand were the colorful margins. I admit, looking back on it, yes it was fun and I learnt a lot, but I can see so many things I would do differently now if I were to redo the project. Still, I am happy to share it with you guys.
We have to be honest with ourselves and always try to improve and learn from whatever we are doing, successes or failures.

Colorful mockups for the "Citta di Livorno" brand. Even though the branding was just part of my graduation project and not for real life purposes, I still remember how exciting and fun it was to come up with all kinds of brand collateral for this brand.
What project do you look back on with satisfaction?

A brand manual is a great way to present the brand in a coherent and organised manner. It will help your client understand and use the brand materials and even you as a designer if you later on have to create other elements for the business. But what does it include? Short answer, everything from "about the brand", brand personality/voice/style/strategy to mockups, brand collateral and elements.
Swipe to see possible chapters you could include in your brand manual.
Is there anything else you would add?

When creating a brand, it is important to make sure that your client understands all the elements that go into it, from the personality of the brand to all the collateral. These can all be presented in the form of a brand manual which is your client's little helper after finishing the project and it can also help you organise the material in a coherent way.
These are some pages from the "Citta di Livorno" brand manual that was part of my graduation project.

Throwback to my graduation project. 😄During my studies, I discovered my passion for branding, but when the time came to choose a graduation project... I was stuck. What could I do that would be both fun and challenging? 🤔
During my last year of university, I decided to move to Italy and I was lucky enough to be able to work on my project from anywhere in the world. This is when inspiration hit me: Why don't I try to brand the city I'm moving to? Because of the move, I had to do some research about the place anyway, but why not go deeper and really learn everything I could about it and present that research in the form of a brand?
I had never looked into city branding before, but it sounded quite fun and well... was it a challenge 😅
Anyway, this is a reminder to always try and learn new things, no matter how challenging they may seem. I don't do city branding for a living now but I've learnt so much from this project and it allowed me to grow as a designer, improve my skills and find new interests. 😊

Your customers don't want to buy your products. They want to buy a solution to their problems.
Imagine this: you've just moved into your new place and want to hang a painting on your living room wall, but to do that you first need a hole, then a nail to put in the hole and a hammer to make the hole.
So you go to the closest hardware store and buy some nails and a hammer. When you get home, you happily make the hole, hand the painting and throw the nails and the hammer somewhere in a box and forget about them.
You didn't buy the hammer and the nails because you needed them. You needed to hang a painting and these were tools to helps you achieve your desired outcome.
You need to stop thinking about what you sell, and start thinking about why you sell it.
What solutions do you provide your customers?
