Michael Pace Helped Shape the Way We Interact With Media — And He’s Still Building What’s Next
Known to many simply as “Pace” (pronounced pa-che, meaning “peace” in Italian), his name reflects the way he works—calm under pressure, focused on progress, and always building toward something lasting.
Before streaming changed how we consumed content, before smartphones put the web in our pockets, there was a moment when the DVD reigned. And it didn’t just play movies. It opened the door to interaction. Behind that shift was Michael Pace, a creative technologist, copywriter, and digital pioneer who has been building connected experiences since the earliest days of digital media.
In 1991, Pace founded EMA Multimedia, Los Angeles’s first multimedia creative studio. At a time when “interactive” meant experimenting with tools that barely existed, EMA brought them to life. The studio went on to produce over 400 interactive DVD titles for major Hollywood studios, including Disney, SONY Pictures, HBO, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros., Universal, New Line Cinema, MGM, Trimark, and Orion Pictures.
These weren’t static menus. They were immersive user experiences, localized for international audiences in French, Italian, German, and Spanish, shipped worldwide, and designed to engage viewers beyond the play button.
Pace also pioneered the first-ever connected DVD. This disc, bundled with AOL and Earthlink, allowed users to unlock added value through online interaction. It bridged physical media and the early internet, turning passive viewership into active digital engagement years before apps and streaming ecosystems became the norm.
His innovations earned him recognition as #7 on A/V Multimedia Magazine’s Top 100 Producers and press in Entrepreneur Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, and Daily Variety. His work helped define the interactive entertainment experience for an entire generation.
In 1995, Pace also envisioned and patented Digital Trading Cards (DTC) on optical disc. Fast forward, this concept introduced a secure, interactive digital collectible system long before NFTs or blockchain collectibles existed. His Polygon smart-contract model allowed creators and rights holders to programmatically control royalties and authenticity. Today, these same ideas are fundamental to Web3 platforms, but Pace saw the opportunity decades earlier.
As technology evolved, Pace continued to adapt. Through his agency, Michael PACE Digital, he shifted from disc-based content to full-scale digital platforms. He has since led projects involving web development, branding, marketing, and messaging for companies such as ON24, GoDaddy, Splunk, HuffPost, Empire Entertainment, and Carnegie Hall. Today, he works with a clutch of small to medium-sized businesses, running their websites and marketing.
“I’ve always worked between the lines, where storytelling, technology, and audience behavior meet,” says Pace. “It’s never been about chasing the newest thing. It’s about understanding what makes something useful and meaningful.”
His core strengths include:
Web Development: Performance-focused websites built on WordPress, Shopify, and custom stacks
Web Design: Clean, responsive user interfaces with attention to clarity and flow
Digital Marketing: SEO-led campaigns and lead generation strategies that deliver measurable growth
Graphics: Visual assets that support and elevate the brand message
Strategy and Copywriting: Clear positioning, purposeful messaging, and content that connects
Pace continues to lead from experience, not hype. He helps brands stay focused, aligned, and prepared for what’s next. Whether writing high-impact content, leading a digital overhaul, or building a scalable platform, he’s focused on creating things that work, and that endure. https://michaelpace.com
