Three shoes, one plate, three very different runners. Alex breaks down the Hyperwarp range.

The Racer is the way in. A dual midsole of Enerzy XP+ over Enerzy Next+ makes it the most accessible of the three, the one that asks least of you and gives back readily.

The Elite sits in the middle and splits the difference literally. Enerzy XP+ ATPU on top for softness and rebound, a PEBA-based Enerzy XP layer underneath for control. Two compounds doing two jobs.

Then the Pure 2, which goes all in. A full Enerzy XP+ midsole makes it the softest and bounciest of the range, and also the least forgiving. It’s the most performance-oriented shoe Mizuno builds and the one that demands most in return. Alex calls it the best race shoe the brand has made, with the caveat that it rewards strong, fast runners and punishes anyone hanging on.

All three run the Smooth Speed Plate. What changes is how much shoe you have to earn.

Alex has been running in the new ASICS Slowcush

It weighs 298g, with a 48mm heel and 40mm forefoot for an 8mm drop. It costs €210 / $200.

Alex rates the midsole, upper and fit as extremely well done, with comfort second to none across the whole shoe. The catch is the price. At €210, it’s expensive for what is really an easy and recovery shoe.

Alex would like to see some of the Slowcush’s tech and geometry make it into the Nimbus line, starting with the Nimbus 30, the 30th version of the shoe.

A closer look at the all new Mizuno Hyperwarp Pure 2

With an extremely soft midsole underfoot, the Hyperwarp Pure 2 is an upgrade compared to the previous Hyperwarp Pure, but still features that bouncy, high-energy sensation which we all came to love about the previous shoe.

Both Chicago Marathon winners raced in the adidas Adios Pro Evo 3.

Hawi Feysa won the women’s race. Sharon Lokedi was second in an Under Armour development shoe, and Brigid Kosgei was third in the Nike Apex.

Amos Kipruto won the men’s race. Tadese Bikila was second, also in the Adios Pro Evo 3, and Milkesa Mengesha was third in the Nike Apex.

The Adios Pro Evo 3 took three of the six podium spots, the Nike Apex two, and Under Armour’s development shoe one.
