A closer look at the Salomon S/LAB Genesis 2, now available at i-run.fr.

The rebuild runs a dual-density midsole, TPU-based in the forefoot for a springier, more durable feel and EVA through the rest, dropping the heel from 33mm to 31mm while holding the forefoot at 25mm, a 6mm offset down from 8mm on the original. Salomon says the wider platform increases ground contact by 23%. No plate here: Salomon points to its own research finding carbon plates gave no metabolic benefit on flat trail and cost roughly 2% more energy uphill, which is part of why the Genesis 2 stays plateless. Underneath sits a new ContaGRIP lug pattern at 4.5mm, and the upper moves to Matryx Micro, a fabric Salomon says is more durable than the original Matryx.

Four trail shoes, four completely different answers to the same question: how do you keep your foot on the ground.

The Kiprun Kipsummit Race runs a Vibram Megagrip Litebase build with 4mm lugs on an ultra-thin baseplate, built to shed weight without giving up bite on fast singletrack. SCARPA’s Alien Sky goes further in the same direction: Megagrip rubber, 4mm lugs, and directional traction pins with no intermediate layer between foot and midsole. Norda’s 055 takes the opposite approach, deep 5mm lugs paired with micro-spikes and extended perimeter rubber for mud, snow and scree. Altra’s Olympus 275 HILO sits apart from all three, a wide Megagrip build with deep flex grooves that mirror the foot’s own shape.

Same brand of rubber underneath the four shoes, and none of them look alike. Which of these four shoes do would you go for? 👇

are present in Chamonix this year during UTMB week. Having released a new Ultra Trail shoe earlier this year, we had a chance to look at the prototypes which lead to a brand new shoe in their lineup.

Also revealed at their stand was a new colourway of the Neo Accera in a red colourway!

The shoe that just won UTMB 👀

We got our hands on the KIPSUMMIT RACE, the carbon-plated trail racer worn by on her way to victory at UTMB yesterday.

Built for long-distance racing, the KIPSUMMIT RACE combines a patented carbon plate with FASTECH+ foam and a Vibram® Megagrip Litebase outsole, bringing the supershoe concept to the trails.

Key specs:
• 255 g
• 37.5 mm / 31.5 mm stack
• 6 mm drop
• Carbon plate
• 4 mm lugs

Tough conditions on this CCC, with heavy rain, especially towards the finish, but still some crazy performances.

From a shoe perspective, it’s a double for both Kailas FUGA and adidas on the CCC, while HOKA and Nike ACG complete the podium.

A closer look at the Agravic Speed Ultra EVO, and the structural idea behind it.

The headline is the dual ENERGYRIM. Rather than running support down the centre of the shoe, as the Energy Rods did on previous models, adidas has moved it to the edges: a carbon rim that wraps the heel and opens out at the forefoot. The logic is that supporting the perimeter lets the Lightstrike Pro foam in the middle compress more freely, which adidas claims produces 15% greater deformation and 10% more energy return than the Speed Ultra 2.

What that buys in practice is height without weight. It sits 1mm taller at the heel and 3mm taller at the forefoot than its predecessor, on a wider platform, while shedding around 18g. At 250g on a 39/33mm stack, it’s lighter than the Cascadia Elite, the ACG Ultrafly 2 and the Tecton X 4.

A full-length plastic plate sits below the outsole for rock protection, with Continental rubber and aggressive lugs handling the ground, and a one-way stretch woven upper with an integrated debris collar on top.

$500 / €500, in very limited numbers from August 25th.
