What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice which combines dance, martial arts and mindfulness. Nia tones your body while transforming your mind. More than just a workout, Nia is a holistic fitness practice addressing each aspect of your life – body, mind and soul.

Nia is to fitness what holistic medicine is to health care. It has many different components that help with many conditions such as asthma, arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression and injuries. It is movement as medicine. It is a non-intimidating way of appreciating your body, indeed yourself, plus it’s effective and fun!

Nia combines the energy forms of tai chi, taekwondo and aikido (the martial arts) with modern dance, Duncan dance and free dance and uses the concepts of the alexander technique, Feldenkrais method, yoga and mindfulness.

Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring world music. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes and fitness levels.
