Today we want to wish our friends and community a very happy New Year with this crafted animation, made from scratch with love for Greater Sudbury.
The composition uses our signature colour palette, which unifies everything. We began with a hand-drawn storyboard using pencil and paper before scanning, vectorizing, and animating the piece in various formats for social media. It was created with freedom and intent. Our first idea didn’t pan out, but once we knew what we wanted, the vision was clear.
To add depth to this style, we used a mix of techniques, gradients, and solid colours, dividing sections into light and dark halves. We gave it life and purpose by drawing inspiration from the memorable places we frequented all year: the Big Nickel, Wolves games with our parents, Ramsey Lake where we skate in winter, and Science North, our neighbour and favourite place.
The “Wolf on a Wire” was our last addition because, a taxidermic wolf emerging from its lair every time the team scores? What other town has a tradition like that?
We also drew inspiration from daily connections we created with everyone and everything around us (there is so much beauty out there). This allowed us to unify the story we wanted to tell through text, proportions, colours, and emotion.
