‘Highlighting works across her six-decade career, this is the late artist’s first solo presentation in continental Europe, following a solo exhibition with Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, in 2024. Godwin has long been recognised as a pioneering figure in the landscape of American art. Her contribution to the New York avant-garde began in the 1950s when she became associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement, forging a unique visual language based on modernism and abstraction. Her legacy defies the challenges she faced as a result of both her s*x and s*xuality.’

‘Within this body of densely watchable new works there is a sense of crush emerging in a carefully managed tumult of imagery and texture tousling for foreground status. We are witness to an organised parade of fallings apart and comings together as they provoke a sort of merry-go-round methodology, within which driving figures backwards through bleaching, rubbing, staining leaves them waiting in the wings, awaiting their possible return to the surface.’ – Dr Zoë Mendelson

The full essay by is included on the poster.
