Spoilt for choice! Garden Fresh Exotics on Park Road in Glasgow's West End just goes from strength to strength! On a visit last month I counted at least 9 different varieties of chillies!

Prompted by the EU - UK summit earlier this week where fishing became such an issue I couldn't but help think of my recent visits to the fish markets along Portugal's Algarve coast. For all that fish and chips is a British tradition we can hardly call ourselves a nation of fish eaters. We have some of the best fishing grounds in Europe but where does the majority of the catch go? Europe! Looking round an Algarve fish market the variety and quantity of fish is totally astounding! Why dont we see the same here in the UK?

Just back from New Zealand and for all that the jet lag is terrible there are so many memories, not the least of which is this French toast, the perfect brunch, while the strawberries make a great garnish they also work well in the overall taste of the dish. So, if you ever find yourself in New Plymouth be sure to visit the White Hart Hotel!

Great feedback for the talk that I gave at the Irvine Camera Club earlier this week!

Tonight we had Keith Gooderham Greenshoots Photography at the club to present his talk "So much food, so little to eat". A large turnout of our members were treated to a fantastic evening of not just wonderful tantalising photographs of food, but also fascinating insights into restaurants, markets, chefs and bakers - all delivered with Keith's witty and engaging account of his life as a food photographer.

I know prices are going up but is this a record?! More seriously though, the other shots, seem to me at least, to show how we are creating unnecessary amounts of waste food in our rush to be rid of plastic! The prepacked cauliflowers and sprouts and many other vegetables have a much greater shelf life in plastic so why the rush to get rid of it?

The Cornish Bakery. And this is a chain, with 50 stores and growing!! Came across their store in Whitby last week so impressed!
