What are the three emails that you need to have set up as an ecommerce business?

Even more important, why do you need to set up these three email flows?

• The welcome email flow is important because it’s a new subscriber. They’re paying the most attention right now. Introduce your brand, give them a reason to stick around, and point them toward their first purchase.
• Abandoned cart emails remind customers of what they left behind in their carts. These reminders work best if the email brings them right back to the moment they left.
• A post-purchase email reinforces that they made the right decision. It builds trust and makes the customer relationship deeper.

Together, these three emails cover your customer from their first “hello” to their second order.

Your emails are being opened. So… why isn't anyone buying?

A great subject line gets you in the door, but the email is doing the heavy lifting of selling.

If opens aren't turning into orders, check for these three issues:

1. A weak offer. "Shop now" doesn't give anyone a reason to buy. Show them WHY this product matters to them.

2. No clear call to action. If subscribers have to hunt for the CTA, well, they won’t. Tell them exactly where to click.

3. You’re sending the wrong message. A great offer falls flat if it doesn't match what your customer wants right now.

That great subject line will get people interested. Now your email has to create desire.

Buying an email list? That won’t guarantee they’re interested in your brand.

Those uninterested email subscribers stay quiet.

They can even report them as spam.

So, you might be paying for contacts that will never convert and never generate any revenue for you.

Growing your own list means that you’ll be contacting people who actually want to hear from you.

A spam complaint is a warning sign saying your email was unwanted, irrelevant, or too frequent.

Too many spam complaints directly impact your sender reputation.

Translation?

It’s harder to reach email inboxes in the future.

You can prevent it by:

• Sending emails people are expecting
• Segment your list to keep emails relevant
• Make unsubscribing as easy as possible

Build a list of people who actually want to hear from you.

Is there a way to celebrate a customer’s birthday without sounding too sales-y?

Our short answer is, yes!

It doesn’t have to be a birthday, but any significant moment, like a first-purchase anniversary or a year with your brand, are natural times that you can reach out.

Use these tips to make your emails feel more special.

1. Make it feel personal. Use their name directly in the email. “Happy Birthday, Sarah!” resonates more than another generic promotion.

2. Give them a reason to celebrate. A birthday reward, exclusive product, special perk, or limited-time gift are all worth emailing about. Keep the offer easy to understand.

3. Make the reward feel special. Don’t give everyone the same generic sale.

4. Keep the journey simple. If a customer has a birthday coming up, the email should lead to the personal offer and then easily go to checkout.

Once you set up automations, they will work for you with each memorable moment.
Make them feel remembered and celebrate the relationship, not just the sale.

New customers need more trust and reassurance. Returning customers need more relevance.

You can make sure that each group gets the emails they need to see.

Segment your email list by purchase history and match your emails to where customers are in their journey.

Then your new customers will get the welcome emails and product education that they need to reinforce trust.

And returning customers will get recommendations, cross-selling, and loyalty that they’ve earned.

Use segmentation right and never sell the same way twice.

Those “Last Chance!” emails just aren’t hitting the way they used to.

Your audience has seen them so many times.

They know it’s not really their “last chance” to get something.

Urgency still works, but only when it’s:

• Tied to a real deadline
• Tied to real stock or availability
• Used sparingly

Keep the urgency real and keep customers interested.

Your emails don’t stick in people’s minds.

So you need to send out more variety, right?

Not exactly.

You need to be recognizable.

Consistency will make your emails stick, especially with:

• How you explain value
• How you talk about offers
• How you guide decisions

Subscribers will associate your brand with the tone you often use. Keep it consistent and familiar.

Treating your subscribers all the same?

That won’t work when it comes time to send them a re-engagement campaign.

It’s the same offer in the same tone. The SAME things over and over.

YAWN!

Get to know why they dropped off in the first place, then match the approach:

• If it’s content fatigue, change the messaging style
• If it’s relevance, improve the segmentation
• If it’s timing, reduce frequency or reintroduce gradually
• If it’s intent loss, shift to softer, low-pressure flows

Use these tips for your next re-engagement campaign!

“So… what do we send this week?”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Creating ideas from scratch, every week, is an inconsistent email strategy.

Start with the customer behavior first:

• Did they abandon a cart?
• Are they inactive?
• What purchases have they made lately?

Look at their behaviors to see what the customer is trying to do (or what they’re not trying to do.)

Let’s say someone viewed a product but didn’t make a purchase. The email you send them has to:

• Answer hesitation
• Highlight benefits
• Reduce confusion

No more brainstorming and no more getting stuck on ideas!
