What do customers check before hiring a local business? Probably more than we realize. 👀

Here’s the uncomfortable test:

Look at your business online without filling in the blanks with everything YOU know about it.

Pretend you’ve never met the owner.

Never seen the work.

Never heard the reputation.

Would what you find make you want to spend your money there?

That question works whether you run a men’s spa in Miami, an event company in Atlanta, a property management company in Phoenix, or a plumbing company in Jacksonville.

Different customers. Same human sitting on the other side of the screen deciding:

“Do I trust this enough to take the next step?”

📌 Save this and run through the carousel with your own business.

đŸ“€ Send it to another owner and ask them which number they’d fix first.

👇 Which slide got you?

How do customers actually use Google reviews before hiring a local business? 👀

Because I don’t think most people shop the way businesses THINK they shop.

Here’s a little experiment.

Pretend you’re about to spend $10,000 of your own money with a local company you’ve never hired before.

You find one with:

⭐ 4.9 stars
⭐ Hundreds of Google reviews
⭐ Plenty of happy customers

What do you do NEXT?

That’s the part I want you to think about while you watch this video.

Because there’s something hiding inside your Google reviews that may be doing a lot more of the selling than the number beside those five little stars.

And it’s one of the reasons I would rather have an authentic, specific customer story than another generic:

“Great company! Highly recommend!”

Watch this one before you ask your next customer for a review. 👆

Then come back and tell me:

👇 When YOU research a local business, what do you look at first in their reviews?

The bad reviews? 😂
The newest ones?
Photos?
The owner’s responses?
Reviews about the exact service you need?

I’m curious how different these answers are.

📌 Save this before you ask for your next review.

đŸ“€ Send it to a local business owner who’s obsessed with their review count.

🔎 Want to know what customers are actually finding when they search for your business? Comment AUDIT. My free business check shows you where you’re showing up, where you’re missing, and how you compare in your market across Google Maps and AI search, in under three minutes.

🙋 Already running an established local business and want someone else handling this? Comment HELP. My team handles your Google Maps, SEO, content and AI search visibility so more of the right customers can find you when they’re looking for what you do.

Trying to beat bigger competitors on Google Maps? 👀

Here’s the part I want you to think about while you watch this:

Your biggest competitor doesn’t need to be bad for there to be an opportunity.

They just need to leave something valuable unclaimed.

A service.

A customer problem.

A geographic pocket.

A better buying experience.

A piece of expertise they’re not proving particularly well.

That’s what I’m looking for when I analyze a competitive local market.

Because “they’re ranking, so let’s copy them” isn’t a strategy.

Watch the video, then tell me this:

👇 Drop your INDUSTRY + CITY below.

Concrete contractor in Kansas City?
Septic company in Jacksonville?
Window replacement in Cincinnati?

I want to see which markets you’re all fighting in. 😂

📌 And save this one for the next time you’re tempted to copy whatever the #1 business is doing.

Working with a view of the ocean is a nice perk, but the real view we care about is your business showing up at the top of Google Maps. 🌊

As the season starts to shift, plenty of customers in Palm Bay and West Melbourne are searching for local services right now. If your Google Business Profile is not pulling its weight, those clicks are going somewhere else. Our team provides local SEO for Google My Business along with professional SEO services that help your listing earn more calls, direction requests, and visits.

As a hands-on marketing company, we keep things simple. A marketing consultant looks at your categories, keywords, and online marketing setup, then fixes what is holding you back. No gimmicks, just steady local seo work that shows up in your reports.

“We need more leads.”

Maybe.đŸ€”

But I’d pull five numbers first:
📌 Qualified inquiries‹📌 Answer/contact rate‹📌 Estimates sent‹📌 Follow-ups completed‹📌 Jobs closed

Because needing more opportunity and leaking opportunity are two completely different business problems.

Marketing can’t fix a phone nobody answers.

It can’t follow up on an estimate.

And it can’t close the sale for you.

At the same time, a perfect sales process can’t fix a business that isn’t generating enough qualified opportunities in the first place.

You need to know which problem you actually have before you spend money fixing it.

And yes, some leads genuinely suck. 😂

👇 Settle this for me:
What’s worse?
A: Paying for a bad lead.
B: Paying for a GOOD lead and never following up.

Send this to the person who still has estimates from August sitting in their inbox. 👀

Try to tell me what your business does WITHOUT telling me what your business does. 😂👇

Don’t give me:

“Pool contractor.”

“Foundation repair.”

“Garage door company.”

Give me the sentence the customer says when they call you.

“My pool keeps turning green.”

“There’s a crack running from my window to the floor.”

“My car is trapped in my garage.”

That’s where good local-business content starts getting interesting.

Businesses naturally think in services.

Customers often start with problems.

And as people increasingly use conversational search and AI tools to describe entire situations rather than perfectly formed keywords, understanding that difference becomes even more useful.

📌 SAVE THIS CONTENT EXERCISE:

Pick one profitable service.

Write down 10 things a customer might see, notice, experience or ask before they know they need that service.

You just found 10 potential content topics rooted in real customer intent and actual expertise.

And those are much more useful than publishing:

“Looking for [SERVICE] in [CITY]? Call us today!”

for the 48th time. 😂

👇 YOUR TURN: Describe the customer problem WITHOUT naming your service. I’ll try to guess what you do.

🔎 Comment AUDIT for my free Google Maps + AI business check.

Try this tonight. But don’t do it as the business owner. 👀

Pretend you’re about to give your company a LOT of money.

Maybe you’re hiring a pool builder in Las Vegas.

Maybe you’re choosing a foundation repair company in San Antonio.

You don’t know the owner.

You don’t know their reputation around town.

You don’t know that their crews are fantastic.

You only know what you can find.

Now follow the buyer journey:

1. Discover the business.

Google. Maps. An ad. Social. AI. Referral. Wherever.

2. Google the name.

What immediately appears?

3. Open the Google Business Profile.

Photos current? Reviews current? Services clear? Does this look active?

4. Open the website.

Within five seconds, can you tell what they do, where they work and why you’d trust them?

5. Check social.

Does the company look alive?

Does the content demonstrate actual work and expertise?

Or did somebody schedule 14 inspirational quotes and call it a strategy? 😂

6. Ask an AI platform about the business.

What can it actually understand or verify?

Then ask the only question that matters:

At what point would I hesitate to give this company my money?

That’s your marketing gap.

Not another vanity metric.

Not “we need more followers.”

Not automatically “we need more leads.”

📌 SAVE this and run the buyer-journey test on your own business.

đŸ“€ And send it to your business partner, marketing person, or whoever keeps asking for more leads.

💬 Then come back and tell me: Where did YOUR business lose points? Website? Reviews? Google? Social? Something else?

Five months can change everything on Google Maps.

That's how long it took one of our clients, a moving company, to go from barely showing up in local searches to ranking across the grid for their top keyword. No tricks, no shortcuts, just steady local SEO for Google My Business and a profile that Google finally started paying attention to.

As a marketing company, we see this pattern a lot with service businesses in Palm Bay. The right categories, complete info, and consistent updates add up faster than most owners expect.

✔ A marketing consultant reviews your full listing
✔ Practical SEO services tied to real Maps rankings
✔ Online marketing that turns searches into calls

If you're wondering where your business actually stands on the map, there's an easy way to find out. Call us to get a free audit of your Google Business Profile.

Posting more isn’t the same thing as building more authority. 👀

That’s a distinction I think is becoming incredibly important for local businesses as AI search grows.

If you’re a plumber, Google and AI don’t need 27 versions of:

“ABC Plumbing provides plumbing services in Charlotte.”

We got it. 😂

Give them context.

What kinds of plumbing problems do you actually solve?

What have you repaired?

What made those jobs difficult?

What questions do customers ask?

What areas do you genuinely work in?

What does your experience allow you to explain that a generic AI article can’t?

Then reinforce that expertise across the places where your business exists.

📍 Google Business Profile
🌐 Website
⭐ Reviews
📾 Real projects
đŸŽ„ Video
đŸ“± Social
📝 Useful content
🔗 Third-party sources

Not identical copy pasted everywhere.

Different evidence supporting the same entity.

And keeping that information current matters too. A website that hasn’t reflected what the business has actually been doing for years is leaving a lot of useful context behind.

This is why I don’t think “AI optimization” should become another keyword-stuffing exercise.

DON’T COUNT KEYWORDS. COUNT EVIDENCE.

📌 Save that one.

Then choose ONE profitable service and ask:

How much evidence have we actually created that we’re an authority on this?

💬 And tell me in the comments: What’s the ONE service you wish your business was better known for?

Today I’m not asking what you rank for.

I’m asking what you built.

Because behind every Google Business Profile I audit and every local business I work with is an actual person who at some point said:

“I think I can make this work.”

And then had to figure out approximately 4,762 things that had absolutely nothing to do with the thing they originally went into business to do. 😂

That’s the part I think we forget.

The roofing company isn’t just a Google Maps listing.

Neither is the remodeler, plumber, restoration company, landscaper, pool contractor or any of the other businesses we talk about here.

Someone built those companies.

Someone signed the first customer.

Someone bought the first truck.

Someone made the bad hire.

Someone wondered whether this whole thing was going to work.

And then kept going.

So I’m taking Labor Day off from teaching you how Google thinks. 😂

Instead:

👇 Tell me what YOU built and where you’re located.

Big company. Small company. Five years old. Twenty-five years old.

Brag a little. You’re allowed today.

And if you see another business owner in the comments doing something cool, say hi to them too.

🔎 AUDIT still gets you my free Google Maps + AI business check.

🙋 HELP if you’ve built the business and want my team handling your Local Visibility strategy.

Happy Labor Day to the people doing the labor of building the damn thing. đŸ‡ș🇾
