Expedition Seven recovered its equipment and prepared to withdraw.

One member stopped working.

The recovered records do not fully agree. One file says one thing. The photograph suggests another.

Expedition Seven continued beyond the documented depth of the lower excavation.

At first, the material inside the rock appeared inert.

Then the ground moved.

Not from collapse.

From below.

The records stopped calling it excavation shortly after this footage was recovered.

The missing pages were not the only problem.

When the recovered field journal was cataloged in 1957, pages 23–27 were missing.

But six loose pages were recovered separately.

One of them was dated May 14, 1887.

Its author was never identified.

The measurements matched Survey Point 18.

The handwriting was similar.

The archive never attributed the page to Frederick B. Lang.

So either the page was his…
or someone else was recording the same excavation.

The record ended at 52 feet.

The excavation didn’t.

Expedition Seven continued deeper into Survey Point 18. By July, the lower cut had reached 61 FT.

Additional drilling equipment was delivered.
Three hardened cutting heads were later returned damaged.

No cause was documented.

By August, excavation activity was still being recorded below the earlier cut.

The records stop explaining why.

Expedition Seven began recording instrument irregularities below Survey Point 18.

At 40 feet, a void was documented.

At 52 feet, a material sample was recovered.

Its classification remains:

UNDETERMINED.

The excavation did not stop there.

The stability reading did not.

In 1887, eight members of Expedition Seven entered Survey Point 18.

The personnel manifest accounted for eight.
The ration records accounted for eight.
The duty logs accounted for eight.

Decades later, Research Division recovered the photographic evidence inside Container 18-09.

Something didn’t reconcile.

By 1957, investigators were ordered to correct the personnel record.

The correction was never completed.

Container 18-09 remains under review.
