One of the biggest mistakes businesses make on social media is talking at their audience instead of with them.
❌ Not replying to comments
❌ Ignoring DMs
❌ Not listening to what posts their audience is engaging with and using the data to inform future ones
It’s easy to fall into the trap of just posting what YOU think is important, and brushing what your audience tells you is working to the side; the answers are right there in front of you.
Think of your audience like passengers in an Uber 🚗 If you keep driving without asking where they want to go, they’ll eventually hop out and find someone who will take them where they need to be. Their direction should be the driving force behind at least 80% of the content you put out.
Ask them what they want to see. Use polls, Q&As, and comments as a way to plan your content. Stay close to the numbers: What content format -- video, image, carousel etc. -- performs best? What topics are getting the most saves, shares, and views? What questions are sparking meaningful conversations?
Put your audience in the driving seat and see where you end up! You'll probably be pleasantly surprised... 🛣️
